Default where do you shop?

where do you guys do your local grocery shopping? i'm a loyal coles shopper, i do my shop at the same place every week but am starting to notice some differneces in the place. alot of peple probrabbly shop at woolies but i prefer coles cause i know they have a good range, but of late i've noticed things have started going missing and arent there any more. does this happen at your local supermarket? cause its annoying when you find something ya like and then i goes missing completely or it takes a while before its back! bloody supermarkets

Don’t really do the shopping but I think it is happening at every major supermarket chain, they are replacing X Product with there own Branded product and keeping the profits.

We reckon Coles is dearer than Safeway (I'm down south if you hadn't guessed) and Aldi is heaps cheaper than either. It just doesn't have the same range that the other two do.

As for your comments regarding products going missing; I've noticed that Coles removes the cheaper brands and replaces them with their Coles branded products for a little higher price. Mongrels!

1: coles (when i want it)
2: safeway (when i need it)
3: aldi (when i wanna stock up)

If Aldi's were closer, I'd be there all the time. I'd buy all the luxurys from there except meat and vegies!

Local Green Grocer and Butcher gets my mula!

Aldi when I can. It totally rocks! Top quality, cheap prices. Never had a complaint about any of the items I've bought there. Actually, I find them better than regular brands and the shopping can be easier since everything is always in the same place.

Coles hvae had lots of good specials lately but never have enough stock of anything. They are always sold out of stuff. Plus the NEVER have enough of their own brand products, orange juice chips, biscuts, yougurt, ALWAYS minimal quantities on shelf or sold out.

I shop at Coles and it sh!ts me no end when they keep removing products I buy. And they dont replace them with anything similar either just supply more of a different style product. They have done it with a few things but the main thing lately is the 150g tuna pouches. I use them for lunches, just the right size. But no, they dont stock them anymore and instaed fill the shelves with the smaller more expensive tinned stuff. :

Is it just me or does Safeway (Woolworths) always look dank & dirty? It must be their colour scheme or something, but the floor always looks dirty.

no i dont work for aldi .
If we go to Canberra or Bathurst we always stock up at Aldi , pays fuel for the trip .

Locally we buy at IGA , the owner is "always" donating to Special Needs

Local boy needed new wheel chair , IGA donated/raised the money because his parents couldn't afford it .
Always donating to local disabled school , M.S. , Vlounteer Fire Brigades , Local family with Motor Neurone Disease (genetic through the whole family) local kids needing cancer treatment , Angelflight , Etc .

Local guy supporting local people . If you're ever in Young , IGA , shop there . Woolies profits "leave town" .

No , I don't work there either !

ritchies iga - heaps cheaper than coles or safeway/woollies, and they stock all the lines the other two have gotten rid of. heaps and heaps of aussie made and owned, plus they donate a percentage of what you spend there to your chosen charity. i don't usually buy the meat (get that at the Vic markets), but when i do it's of very high quality. they rock!

In NSW we're lucky to have Franklins. Great overall discount pricing structure, not as cheap as Aldi but has full range of brands like Coles etc. Heaps cheaper than Coles, Woolworths and IGA and their generic stuff is quite good quality.

Falcon_Phill I thought The Bar was for trivia. How do YOU open an envelope anyway? Left to right or right to left, do you ignore the convenient zip bit and just rip open the end. Must say I'm a bit of a neanderthal when it comes to opening envelopes. :

no i dont work for aldi .

I tried Aldi once and the prices for meat, bread etc were identical, so I walked out and went next door to Woolworths.

Why??

Yes there are a few things at Aldi that are cheaper, like the milk which is about 20-30c cheaper, but I like not having to return my trolley to the supermarket, I like not having to pay extra for plastic bags, I like having express lanes, and I prefer to have brand names I know and trust. They may well be the same, but that is how I am.

Just my thoughts anyway.

i do most of my shopping @ the local markets, the amount of money you save is just insane. Here is an example

Lynx deodorant - Woolworths Approx $4 // Markets $1

If you bought 5 can's
$20 Woolworths // $5 markets. Saving $15

I Also definatly prefer to support my local people rather then some national company paying big $$$ to it's exec's who i don't even know

Next time you're out there have a look at their razor blades, and see how many have security stickers, or 4 digit store numbers written in marker on the back of them...
We've found heaps that were stolen from our store, and stores in the area at the markets.
