Software and VISTA!

Hi Guys,

I am finding more and more everyday certain programs that I need and want to use aren't supported on Vista and do not have drivers to solve this issue yet.

I'm sorry if I expect to much but wouldn't you think compaines would have at least thought about releasing drivers to make their current software able to work or perform correctly on Vista, personally I am a fan of Vista (except the massive ammount of Ram it uses) and am just a little dissapointed in many software companies.

It is the new OS and it is here to stay for a while, who's else thinks that the these companies should get their **** together and work on this? who else is having issues.

Oh one last thing, no I do not want to dual boot mr software company and no I will not take a backwards step and install xp! its called the technology dude keep up!!

its not an easy job to retro fit billions of coded lines just to suit a new OS , Give it time

Softwarre compaines where given Beta versions on Vista as to give them time to have their stuff ready for Vista's release, most compaines pulled it off, why can't the rest??

Same old story that was around when XP was released.
Many comapnies wait until RTM to even think about updating their applications. You either just give it time or look for alternatives.

I just think it says alot for a company that doesn't "keep up"

Because it is a beta version and not the final version. No point in developing something if it is not going to work when the final release comes out. Take it from a software developer.
Give it time and the drivers will come out.

Meanwhile, (as much as you may hate to hear it), being an "early adopter" you're asking for trouble. People are still learning about how this thing works, and finding out new things every day.

Consider this article for instance: IBM'er says Vista's RAM sweet spot is 4GB

They didn't tell you that, did they?

I have installed 4 programs I used to use in XP, all are not written for Vista. But all work fine in Vista. I would try each one you need to use unless you have not purchased them yet. You may find they work anyway.

I'm using my other machine as a test bed for Vista. It's a P4 2.8 wuth 768mb ram, 1*80gb IDE and 1*60gb IDE, Radeon 9600pro, Gigabyte m/board etc. It's working fine but I won't install it on this machine till the video frame rate in games is equal to XP.

EG : 7600GT in XP using to the test software I use benches 1500-1600fps @ 1280*1024 on a P4 3.2, 1gb ram, 200gb hdd etc. 7600GT Vista benches 490-520fps @ 1280*1024 on a Core 2 E6300, 1gb ram, 320gb hdd etc etc.

If your a gamer? Don't bother with Vista just yet. It's got some nice features. I'm playing with the Premium Home version. I wouldn't have minded the Ultimate version buy money only goes so far.

I think the 8 series cards will do better, as they are designed with DirectX 10 in mind. Although my 6600GT had no issues with slow down of frame rates (Visually not tested) in NFS Carbon and Most Wanted. (Only games I have used in Vista thus far)
Home Premium here too, I ran Ultimate in beta for ages, but I see no need to use Ultimate at home. Better to save your money folks.

why on earth would software companys waste their time building programs for a Beta Versions , thats like saying , "Yeah , Tune my car with this new ACME Tuner , it cose $7!"

Yea...I love Vista..but agree...software companies haven't had long to test the RTM build with their software....a LOT of software houses won't develop software on a beta build...why would they?

I'm loving Ultimate...the Dreamscene "Extra" is amazing...

I'm not running that much on Vista as yet and the only thing that I have that doesn't run is Peer Guardian.

Driver wise I was pretty annoyed that it took so long for 8800 drivers to be released but my gaming needs are still being met by XP.

I downloaded a DX10 8800 demo the other day but that would require me to reboot this box to check it out and I've yet to find the motivation to do that. :P

vista sux, frame rate on every game i own is running lower than running on xp. takes up too much resource of your graphics card...dissapointed

Until the games I want to play arent available for XP anymore, I wont bother upgrading. Frankly, Vista offers me nothing worthwhile, that I cant already do in XP.

Easy solution -
i have an imac with OSX and vista is just a rip-off of that

havent read the thread. but in the end it is the exact same as the release of windows 95 after windows 3.1 and the same as windows 98 after 95 and xp after 98. it allways happen. that is why i dont upgrade it for a while. ya jus have to live with that.

Go get a version of linux (cant remember what version) and you'll find that OSX was ripped off FROM that.
