Indian (ANY FOREIGN) license is valid three months. Where not in English, a translation must be provided.

Then must take up domestic.

Applies to nations via the "UN Convention on Road Traffic, Road Signs and Signals". (India and Australia are contracting parties and continue to be bound).

The information is in every Australian driver handbook.
