They are ruthless, I was parked illegally and had a stroke, still stung me after a letter. I even included the medical letters.

Option 1 is useless, try finding a bank that carries that number of coins for starters: plus they don't have to accept coins, been proven in the past by previous miscreants who have tried to do the same.
Option 2 will just p*** you off eventually having to make many payments in your own time.
Option 3 nah luck is not on your side unfortunately.
Option 4 not going to be responsible to giving you hideous ideas.

Option 1 again, pay it properly, end your misery and move on in life.

Cheers

IF.. and that's a big IF...

I could always buy a super cheap POS car.
Remove all the ID numbers, so it's not traceable back to me... and park it there just out of spite..

Just a mad thought.

Rightly or wrongly, knowingly or unknowingly, you parked the car in a spot that you weren't supposed to, and you were unfortunate enough to have someone that cared notice said parking. As much as it may pain you to do so, pay the fine and get on with your life. It's not worth the angst to dwell on this any longer.

I've had to pay two parking fines in my life, both of which I wrote to the respective councils about, requesting leniency. Both of which received the reply akin to yours. I dutifully paid them, and whilst it hurt at the time, both instances are now nothing but a distant memory that I had forgotten about until this thread.

Don't allow your experience to impact you in any way other than being more careful where you park in the future.

Well done Mr. Love your work.

I tried in vain. I ended up paying it.

What the hey, that's why we have jobs right? So we can give our hard earned to someone else... for something trivial that was inconveniencing / hurting no one.

Youse blokes think youse wuz hard done by.

Lemme tell you my story

I was parked on a green verge loosely called a footpath that was very wide and out the back of the local sailing club.

There wuz plenty of us parked there.

You guessed it, I got stung along with the other 25 cars.

I rang up the council and put to them my case.

"It was my 75th birthday so surely youse will give me some leniency."

The girl responded, "Make a submission setting out your reasons why the fine should be waived. This will be looked at by a council employee who will take what you write into consideration and they will write back to you saying the fine will not be waived."

Bastards!

We're having issues with our local council courtesy of a neighbour that wants to stir the pot.

Daughter's boyfriend has received a couple of warnings for parking within 10m of the corner of an intersection on our street. First time they came round and showed him where he was required to park behind, which he did. The second time, the council officer decided to move the goalposts and make him park even further back.

There's only one problem. According to the NSW road rules, 10m is measure from the edge of the intersecting road. This means on both occasions he was parked completely legally (by 2-3m), and I have no idea on what basis the council officer says he parked incorrectly.

The frustrating thing is they did a letterbox drop explaining the parking rules, but have ignored the neighbours who park on the wrong side of the road in the wrong direction, or those parked to close to the roundabouts at the ends of our street and opposite the double white lines. Definitely feels like we're being targeted specifically.

Contact your local councilor for your area and lodge a complaint, see what they got to say, do you have a local newspaper to contact for a story?

I'll wait until they issue a fine. Because then I'll be able to get a pic of all the other non-compliances in our street that get ignored on the same day by said inspector.

That intersection doesn't have traffic lights by chance ??

Take a photo of vehicle location with attached fine, then measure up distance to dispute the fine.

I’ve marked up the kerb out front, in this case 1m clear of driveways as required. Also I do the “polite parking” thing as it’s a narrower street and this gives more safety to all. So that’s vandalism plus non-compliant parking. Also I planted my own citrus on the nature strip, which is in breach. Eureka Stockade, here I come!

Thing is with petty fines like this issued by local councils, its basically helping to fund a bunch of people in pointless jobs. As such, they are ruthless because it makes them feel and appear relevant and important. The amount of money that local councils waste on their own salaries and pointless, unneeded and unwanted projects is criminal.

In recent years, we got a brand-new art gallery that cost 50-million dollars to design and construct, of which 16-million was funded by the council. Oh, but it draws people to the town. No, once people do visit, they are quick to leave and never come back because the rest of the place is a dump with disgraceful roads. So, 50-million spent for the benefit of visitors and not the people who actually live here. Same applies to the stupid fiberglass cows, of which there are 90 of the pointless things dotted around the place, which are often vandalized and replaced, all at the rate payer's expense. Meanwhile, the don't bother maintaining parks and gardens outside of the highly visible areas of town, and there are council roads that should have been repaired a decade ago. But no, we apparently need fluro coloured cows and an ugly art gallery instead.

The OP did technically break the law, but considering the circumstances, I can see why he was seeking leniency. But I can also see why they wouldn't even entertain the thought of withdrawing the fine....................gotta pay for all the fancy wine and cheeses.

This is an unpopular observation to some of the replies and not the OP's questions.

I'm surprised everyone gets so outraged over these issues, myself included.
Just because you pay rego for your vehicle, doesn't mean you can clog up residential streets with it or paying council rates allows you to park all over the footpaths.
And why do motorist assume every dollar they pay to council should be spent on their roads. I wonder if those complaining over this have ever spent time in other towns and cities admiring their art galleries, parks, public buildings and museums.

Every vehicle parked on a local street and not in a driveway acts as an obstacle to other traffic, buses, local delivery trucks and other service vehicles trying to maintain local infrastructure.

e.g My own mothers street was once a quiet through road with a great bus service, now it has plenty of cars parked along its length bad enough for $ydney buses (back then) to cancel the service. Making people like her (when she was alive) to walk up to and along a busy road (Pennant Hills Rd) to the shops instead.

You pay rego for the "privilege" to drive on the roads not park where you please obstructing others.
You pay council to maintain public services with partial funding set aside for local roads.

reminds me of.

Councils cant have it both ways. They cant profit from the construction of wildly overpriced dogboxes on tiny blocks, which increase the population density while simultaneously pricing out more and more young people from ownership. The inevitable consequence is more cars lining our streets, and kids staying home with their parents far longer.

And to give you a very simple example of council stupidity in this regard, we built a duplex. But council rules state the driveway max width is a shade less than the width of 2 cars side by side. Consequently, one of the tenants ends up parking on the street because its too tight to negotiate around the other tenant's car.

I agree with your point of view to a degree; however, councils and government still can be blamed, especially with newer housing estates, narrow streets with smaller size house blocks, disproportionate for multiple car families, sometimes you are forced to break rules when parking or driving through these estates, which has been mentioned many times in the media.

So the regulation didn't suit the style of development that was in mind, but a conscious decision was made to go ahead with the project anyway.
And this is the councils fault how?
It works both ways, blaming the council for all of our societal woes is a bit of a cop out when theres many other angles to view it by.

Well, for one thing, they billed us an additional $8k in DA fees simply for it being a duplex. So I dont think it's unreasonable that if I'm paying for nothing more than bureaucracy, that the bureaucracy itself is fit for purpose.

I came from a big family, five brothers & two sisters growing up in the 60's & 70's, thank Christ we had big house blocks & understanding neighbours, it was like car city in our street.
Must say the council was good in those days for car parking on front nature strips, no fines but if you had a truck, you were certainly fined.
