Default brake squeal

Ok my brakes are really squealling of late, unless i brake hard. Is there anyway to get rid of the squeal bar buying new brakes for now?

Well the squeal might be the brake indicators telling you the pads are low and time to replace them, so maybe you should

The indicators are just little metal tags that can be snapped off however in most cases.

Heh, I get that too, but I've had my pads replaced and discs machined in the front.

Maybe it's time for some new discs...???

mine are squeeling too, but only recently replaced pads AND rotors. In my case, i think its just the pads wearing in, and excess brake dust.

When I got the XR6 they hadn't machined the rotors so for the first few weeks they squeeled after a bit of use - it went away after shortly after but they squeel now cause ive got to replace pads.

I used to use nulon Brakeclean on old drum brakes, just pull off the drum and brush away all the dust being careful not to inhale any - then give a good spray of the stuff - worked a treat.

Cheers

Put some oil on then it will stop the noise but the car mite not stop.
It some time can be the brand of pad that your using. You mite want to change brand of pads.

My friends have the same problem in their car. They've reported it several times when it's been in for service. The discs were changed, and it's still doing it. Not all the time, but it's not sounding nice. They have been told there is nothing that can be done. It's the kind of brakes the service dept use.

Brakes will usually squeal when your pads are glazed - ie, they have gone "shiny". I find, at least in my experience, that a few very hard stops from a reasonable speed, say over 80km/h will often cure this problem.

Also, performace brake pads that don't see any performance use will tend to squeal, particularly pads with a heavy metal content. The fitment of these pads to such cars is usually not a good choice. They work better, but only when hot. A poor choice for a daily driver.

Someone previously mentioned putting oil on your discs. Don't, that's all I can say.

Sure it's not your handbrake pads,as they are inside the rotor, they can accumulate dust and cause a squeal.A good wash and a few very hard applications seem to fix the problem.
