Hi, I'll be in Melbourne next week for the Formula 1, but I want to try and get to the MCG to catch Richmond V Carlton, maybe Geelong V Hawthorn as well...
Can you buy tickets at the gate and what's the likelihood of them being available given that these are blockbusterish kinda games? And how much is a general admission ticket these days? Last time I went to the footy Subiaco Oval still had grass banks... haha... Thanks |

You should get tickets through general admission but get there early and be prepared to line up for quite a while. Around the MCG there are ticket booths to buy tickets on the day. I havent been for a while, I think its around $25 now
Geelong vs Hawks will be the bigger of the 2 being a g/final replay of last year. |

They will probably be the biggest drawing games of the round, along with the Collingwood Vs Adelaide game (all Collingwood games generally pull crowds upwards of 60,000). the other two are seriously big though.
The Richmond Vs Carlton game will be Ben Cousins first game back and more than likely have him up against his old mate Chris Judd, add to that the fact that it is 2 arch rivals that usually pull a decent crowd. The Geelong Vs Hawthorn game is a dead set blockbuster, being the replay of last years Grand Final. You should get tickets for both games at the gate without a problem, but get there early (about 2 hours before the game starts), I doubt either game will be a sell out, but if you get there too late you will be right up the top of the stand, and from there not even binoculars will help. Tickets should be about $21

Thanks,
So the ticket booths are open during the day as well? I'll be arriving in Melbourne early on Thursday morning and will have some time to kill before I check in to the hotel, might take a detour to the 'G on my way to the track and grab tickets then... |

Or as Geezlouise said, book them online print them out and you take that to the gate. We did that for sound relief last week. Quicker than queing up for them

I think a few dollars more. Don't know why, as it's less work for them to process it.

Book online mate. You will be lining up for ages.
Richmond v Carlton is expected to be aroun 80-90,000. I reckon this will be the better of the 2 games cause Hawthorn have got alot of players injured.

Book online or go to your local Ticketmaster/Ticketek (whoever does them now) and get them that way.
You don't want to be lining up at the gate for either of those games. Haw v Gee is the GF rematch so will be HUGE and the Carl v Rich has Juddy v Cousins so will be a biggun too.

I don't have a credit card so booking online could be difficult, hopefully there'll be a ticket outlet somewhere I can buy them in advance then...

There is a thread on one of the AFL forums that is suggesting that the Richmond v Carlton game sold out a couple of days ago. You might want to contact Ticketek first though to confirm that.

Do NOT go to the gate on the day.
Carlton and Richmond they said might even break records. That was meant to be the case last year, but this year, the extra little pinch of salt is Ben Cousins' return to AFL, playing against former team mate and premiership captain, Chris Judd. Geelong v Hawthorn you will get in on the day, but will get a pretty average seat. I would definitely book via Ticketek (Ticketmaster no longer handle MCG games)

Thanks for the help people,
Got tickets to both games on Saturday, weren't many seats left but managed to get decent seats for Richmond V Carlton (right up front next to the goalposts), and seats WAY up top for Hawthorn V Geelong... will need to remember the binoculars for that one... How early do I need to get there if I have tickets already? |

are you collecting at the venue? or are have you printed them off?
If you have got them in your hand already you could get there about 20 mins - half an hour before the game and you will be right for getting in and getting to your seat before the game starts. allow an extra 10-15 mins if you are collecting your tickets at the ground. there's a few pubs down swan street in richmond, just a short stroll from the G' if you want to grab a beer and some dinner before the game too.

I heard a report on 3AW that tickets for the Richmond-Carlton game are advertised on e-bay at highly inflated prices.
Do the anti-scalping laws cover games other than the finals series? |
