Talking Customizing EB Door Trims!

hey im gonna start this thread for my door trims that i plan to customize!
i havent got any pics yet (im not at home!) but i'll get a few before pics up soon.
my plan is to retrim some fairmont trim inserts (the part that comes off) in black vinyl. the rest of the door i'll dye black to suit my dash and to finish off the bottom half of the interior black!
the door handles and window winders will be silver to match the silver facia on the dash. i already installed door pockets a while back and i'll re trim them with sueade (sorry bout spelling!). i'll prob have to make it thicker to sit under the little lip the pocket has on it.
also i'll install some door handle LED's in blue.

when i picked up some fairmont door trim inserts, there was one EB fairmont which only had 2 door trims, so i got them off and kept looking around. i came across an EA fairmont so i got the other 2 off that. i got home and relised that the EB has thicker foam on the bottom compared to the EA which is only thin! so i got some high density foam from clack rubber and have cut and moulded the foam onto the EA door trim inserts. the edges look a bit scrappy but once the vinyl goes on it wont even be noticable. i know this *** i sat the old material over the top and it wasnt noticable with it and that materials only thin compared to the vinyl!

im thinking i could get XR6 embossed in the vinyl but im not sure who would do it. any suggestions? im from bendigo so if anyone knows someone who could to it that'd be great!!

EFFantastic has done most of this to his EF/EL and looks great. (btw i already had these plans before i seen yours!!!)

so i'll keep posting updates, might take a few weeks tho, just gonna be a slow job!!

i'll post some pics up tonight or tomoro night!

cheers
braden

Heres the photos i promised. Each is identified above the photo in photobucket.com

Remember the modified foam door trim inserts look scrappy but once the vinyl is glued on it wont be noticable! so dont go off at me for this!!

tell me what you think so far.

iv got some more little updates!!
i managed to cut out all the vinyl from the templates of the old trim. then i mucked around a bit making sure i knew where the vinyl had to placed exactly and after a few hours iv almost completed one!just need to finish the middle bit where the door handle goes.

vinyl cutout.

stuck on insert trim
http://s96.photobucket.com/albums/l1...gAnch=imgAnch2

im pretty happy with it!!! i know the XR6 embossment is missing but i couldnt be bothered with it! now im thinking i could have XR6 on the door pockets in the front seats!that other thread i wrote about embossment gave me some ideas on doing it myself and it should be easier to do on the door pockets, plus on the pockets i'll proberly have the XR6 logo larger!

cheers
thanks for the feedback guys!!

Its looking not that bad at the momement, as much as i hate the ea, eb, ed interior and styling i reckon it should just be left alone. I have seen so many custom home made interiors gone terribly wrong. Make sure not to over do it your keeping pretty simple and its looking good. Cant wait to see it finished!

dont worry mate i know what looks good and what dosent!! im doing graphic arts at tafe so im working with images and design all the time!
i dont mind the ea/b/d interiors, a lot better than some, especially xd/e/f!!!!also commodore interiors look cheap too..but anyway back on topic!!
i really love black interiors, just feels more classy and enclosed (cosy if you will!!)!
plus i like being an individual and unique, cant stand looking at BA interiors on show cars and the like because there all the same (seen one, seen em all!). so thats the main reason iv gone for a more unique look.

i'll keep posting updates and progress as i go along!
keep the comments coming!

cheers

this is a bit of topic but has anyone succesfully trimed the A,B,C pillars and the plasitc roof lining?
i was thinking before i could replace the roof carpet with black suede and trim these mentioned parts in black suede also. not sure how it'd look and come up tho. could be a bit of work. im thinking i could have a bit of trouble on the C pillar where the seat belt goes through.

tell us your thoughts.

cheers

B pillar is easy
roof plastics are easy
A pillar is tough
C pillar is tough

I've done it in my car.

fold yes, stretch no.
the top and bottom of the pillars are a pain in the ****, few creases.

how noticable is it?
yeh the vinyl im using on the door trim inserts stretchs nicely and is pretty easy to get rid of folds etc.havent played around with suede too much, just a dodgey centre console lid try!
if it was to turn out crap i'll just spray them black which would be a hell of a lot easier!!

ok bit of a poll here:

on the door pockets should i cover it in black sweade or black vinyl?

iv taken off the original carpet like material and im not sure what material to re trim it in!
suggestions please!!
im thinking maybe the black vinyl as it'll tie in better with the door inserts.

well anyway i'll leave it up to you's!!
