Default Vicroads bans P platers from 6 cylinder falcons

Apparently basic mathematics is too hard for them. If you look on this list there are several BA 6 cylinder sedans and they think a AU XR8 weighs 1500kg.

Redbook list the auto as 1548kgs and the manual at 1500kgs... I know it is not gospel but it is ballpark

Std dry kerb weight for an XR6 HP (live axle) is 1530kg. Add the V8 (+20kg) and the IRS (+ approx 40kg) and electrics (+10kg) and there is no way on earth an AU XR6 will tip the scales underneith 1600kgs

Jeez these laws seem ridiculous - restricting the sort of car you're allowed to drive? Makes no sense. Not that NZ is much better - on a restricted liscence you can't drive between 10pm and 6am or carry any passengers.

Next thing we'll see Commodores losing sales on the used market and used Astras becoming the killing weapon of choice. In 5 years they'll ban P-platers from driving anything with 4 tyres and then they'll ban driving altogether. Then they'll ban having children so there's no more P-platers and no more need for cars with more than 2 seats, then finally they'll just give us all hospital beds to drive around in because we'll all be brain dead by then anyway... God Bless Victoria

My god thats so ridiculous. I rememba the old RestrictedVehicles list which had hardly any cars on it. Looks like someone actually sat down and calculated which cars can and cant be driven.

Nice to see there arent many imports there, an Integra isnt allowed though?!?!

Time to get an interstate licence methinks.

Default rules are bullshit

rules rules rules IM bloodey sick of them. It all dependes on how you drive and were u live. I drove a 351 when i was on my p plates even had the 5.8 litre badges on the side not problem. I will have to say they did do me once 4 a stuffed windsreen and 2 bald tyres but didnt say any thing about the motor and they even cheaked the engine number so they knew the size of motor . Dum pigs. :

Come to SA, you can drive what you like on whatever licence you have! And you dont have to be on your Ps for half your life either! No curfews...

The police don't seem to know about the power law. There was a senior police official on the radio recently and he claimed there was no such law and the heraldsun ran a story demanding power restrictions on Victorian P platers.

Since when. Not that it affects me, but it's a bullshit rule. Both my cars have been xr8's and im still alive and kicking. The car/power has nothing to do with the death rate of P plater's.

I was just as stupid as the next bloke in my old xr8 but i knew my limits and the cars limits. Im now 2o with a MKII xr8 and find it hard to insure, NRMA and just cars are the only 2 that will quote on it. It seems all the dickheads buy wrx's and still manage to crash them, it's not that their fast its that the drivers dont know how to drive them. A bloke i know wrote his off the other day, came thorugh a round about in the wet and decided to dump the clutch from redline in 2nd. It wa sonly a matter of time b4 he wrote it off.

Qld rocks you can do 110 in a 100 zone without too much concern and the radars let you go and us p platers have no restrictions at all. Iv never crashed or gotten a fine or nothing and the cops have never pulled me over. Good old qld...
It sucks as iv driven v8s and so on and don't do anything crazy but plenty of people do which ruins it for everyone. Luckly im off my p's in 2 months anyway.
Though I dont fang it or rip skids as its a public road just drive normal, if you got pinged for doing 3km over that would just drive me insane I don't know how you people can stand it!

We here in NZ don't have any problem with restricted (P in Aus) drivers using 'coons. At least I think so, coz I ain't got no probs with my EA2 Fairmont sedan and that weighs over 1500kgs if I'm correct.

I 'might' be moving the au off for a wrx in a few months and people like this stuff insurance for the rest of us. Im 20 no fines/crashes yet id be charged extremely high for insurance. Surprising to think what people are on when they do stuff in the wet. I just don't bother on the roads way to easy to crash iv hit a gutter once not doing it again. Track is way better no speed camers though im sure the cops would love to set one up.

Oh if you're talking about INSURANCE then we got the same probs here, mainly with drivers under 25. No-one will insure us unless you got mega-bucks.
Maybe I should read the entire threads... Na.
