New L's, P1, P2 Laws were all screwed

im lead to belive this is it the new laws in concrete

things like

alcohol-interlock rules for drink drivers on Ps or aged under 26 years will start in January 2007.
learner permit rules will start from July 2007, as will the new high powered vehicle restrictions for P drivers.
All the new P1/P2 rules and the new driving test will start from July 2008.

Drink-driving offenders will have to fit an alcohol ignition interlock for a minimum of six months when re-licensed.

P1 drivers will also be subject to a passenger limit for the balance of their P1 period

THE BIGGEST KICK IN THGE BALLS OF ALL

The restriction will prevent probationary drivers from driving vehicles with:

engines with eight or more cylinders
turbocharged or supercharged engines
nominated high performance six cylinder engines
engines that have been modified to increase the vehicle’s performance.

Offences will attract a fine and three demerit points

Also, P platers are not allowed to use their Mobiles what so ever whilst driving

I'm just glad i'm off my P's and Just Cars is around otherwise I might not have insurance or my license.
The road authorities need to be ensure that people actually have either expected 120hrs driving experience, just about anyone can drive an auto, I've known people who have only driven a car no more than 10hrs before passing their licence, that is just bloody dangerous, because that ******** could be the one that slams into your car!

All new licence holders should have to complete an emergency braking and handling course, in all road conditions.
Take for example an unexperienced driver driving in peak hour traffic in the wet and has to slam on their brakes (without ABS etc) and doesn't know whats goin on whilst the car start to pull to one side
vs a driver who had this limited experience and knows how to control a vehicle in the wet!

It is this sort or training and experience that will keep your car in one piece and friends/family safER

the kids need better driving skill education not tougher laws

Well I like the bit no turbo's - no little rich kids in insanely expensive turbo's with 1000's mods

BUT still not driver training and education in schools - why not you ask - because that will cost the Government Money and they cant obtain fines for people failing......

Seconded. I know a few ******** acquaintances of mine who are no older than 19 and drive fairly mofified turbos. Needless to say they have all pranged their cars more than once...

Half of those rules have been in NSW for a while ,P1 P2, eg NO Alcohol (zero limit) etc ,

These laws have been in NSW for ages - though everyday I still see skylines and other turbos with red P's driving around so they dont seem to be enforced.

I don't see an issue with them ... I think some of them need to be implemented for the unrestricted licences as well (especially a lower BAC Limit).

Kids shouldnt be driving high performance cars, im yet to meet one who has one and drives it responsibly, its not entirely their fault, if you have the power then your going to use it, this just prevents them from having the power. out:

My only problem with the alcohol lock is why only drunk drivers under 26 I don't care what age you are you can't drink & drive & I don't want to share the road with drunks.

As for the other rules they're a useless band aid just like we have in NSW that aren't based on any proof just something to keep the tabloids & tabloid TV happy while not addressing the real issues by a cynical government.

i see no problem with these laws, they wont affect me as im off my p's in 2 months but even if i was about to get my p's it wouldnt bother me, as i had no need for a performance car, never used my mobile while driving and rarely towed anything without my old man there anyway.

I agree.... They are making the laws so people get some experience before they get behind the wheel of a missle.... It will only be a few years until XR6 Turbo's (Even VX/VZ HSV's) are cheap enough to purchase as a first car..... Then all hell would break loose. But this should prevent some level of accidents.

yer but officer rx2's can stock with a GT35/40 and running 14psi i swear hahaha lol just shhits me i hope the new engine compacity rules dont affect exsiting P platers coz i plan to have just finished my car by then and i dont wanna have to sell it coz i cant afford 3 points and a fine every time i get pulled up for a "stock" ;) Xr8

Glad I live in the ACT. Hate to rub salt into the wounds but I will be getting some form of turbo soon : And I'll be off my P's in November without any fines.

Really though, If they got rid of P plates, then there is no way you could differentiate between P platers and full licenced drivers. I can drive a lot better than some fully licenced drivers out there!

I agree with the rotor's comment - they can be powerful ing NA form - mate had a bridgeported version that ran 13 flat. however powerful 6's sometimes includes rotaries (similar power levels) read the fine print before you go down this path.

I am really sad to see that no politicians see that education and training would be the best solution for all this. Also that alot of older people (Michael Gardiner??? lol) could probably do with the alchohol lockoffs fitted to their cars.

Well there is the P off course, which does some level of training...

And they 'recommend' after you loose your licence, that you attend some kind of driver training... lol

....same argument though. My son can drive my BA n/a 6 but cant drive but not the P6 LTD 351 which i am sure there are Corollas that could beat that at the moment! Looks like its good on paper but doesnt fix the issue.......driver training.

i'd like to see em stop me driving on my p's with my family i'd tell em to polite PEE OFF
there better be exemptions in these rules as i dont drive a high performance rice bubble
but i do fit into this class and by the sounds of it i wont be allowed to drive with the family again in the car with me(yeah BS)

define high performance cause you have a xr6 ba running low 14's high 13's
then you got a rotor which can do this easily?

just stroke the bugger outta the family hack and how are they to know any different?
