Default Leather Upholstery

I have a BA Fairmont V8 and am considering having seats converted to leather. Has anyone had any experience in this. I am located in Brisbane. Does anyone have any comments on suitability of leather in a hot climate.

Thanks,

kilary.

IMO it'd be far cheaper to hunt around for a leather interior than getting it trimmed.....
ask FTG autsalvage (site sponsors)

Definitely try get an existing leather interior that bolts in first, it's a lot cheaper.. I did it on my old LTD.. but retrimming is also a good option if you want to go a little different.. eg your own colour combo etc..

unless a member can give you a great price it will be pricey.

MADNC's suggestion is good, but see what trimmaster can do for you before you can buy.

I live on the Gold Coast and have had cars with leather upholstery for years with no problems. In fact I've recently ordered an F6 with leather and wouldn't consider anything else. Some people who havn't had leather think it gets hot in the sun or is sweaty to sit on but this is not the case.
It's easy to clean if something gets spilt on it and it's easy to care for. The leather in the Fairmont Ghia I just sold looked and felt like new after 4 years constant use. I maintained it by applying "Mothers" leather conditioner once a year and used "Armorall Leather Wipes" disposable wiping tissues every 2 months.

you will get a better quality from trimming them, i had my seats done and its' the best thing i did, if you put up a screen or throw a towel over them in teh sun (we have 45+ days regularly) they are fine in the heat.

That sounds pretty good as i paid $2,500 for a leather Pursuit interior for my BA XR8 Ute that got me seats, console lid, floor mats, door trims, shifter, alloy pedals. this was thru FTG, they can get quite warm when you first get in on a hot day compared to the standard seats

The leather in my XR8 gets warm but the comfort outweighs the heat. I wouldn't trade them in for anything now....then again....a nice GTP interior would make my day! Let us know how you go with re-trimming if thats the road you chose.

here is the emails i exchanged with GT trimming

Hello
I am after an approximate price on a full leather interior retrim for my Ford AU Fairlane Ghia.
In a similar colour to the BMWs and Mercs.. you know that tan/beige colour?

Hope to hear from you soon
Brenden

Hello again
Thanks for the quick reply! much better than alot of other shops ive emailed recently!
Just a couple more questions if you dont mind. Its hard to call due to my work hours.

What is covered in your $2900 approximation?
Is that wall to wall.. roof to floor..front to back. in all new beige/tan leather and carpet and velour for the roof?
or is that just the seats?

Do you think it is a good idea to just paint the plastic parts and retrim just the leather/vinyl covered parts currently in the car?
Im guessing that would bring costs down substantially?

Thanks for your time
Brenden

Hi Brendan, $2900 will cover the front and rear seats including front and rear headrests in a top Italian leather in any colour with a custom design, for $250 extra we can cover the door trims in leather with embroidery included.

Headlining will be around $200, Carpets $295. I would paint all plastic trims and parts u don't really see we can do in a matching vinyl. Painting of plastic trims is a question mark because we need to see all the pieces involved and get a price from our painters, there is no additional charge in our painting it is done at cost price.

Cheers
Gavin

and thats all that was exchanged

hope that helps you some!!

My brother recently got leather for his holden acclaim from ebay and is geting it fitted in a few weeks. Its good quality leather. I think he paid around $600 for the leather and its going to be around $800 for the fitting. The guys off ebay do leather for fords aswell and you can pick your colour and stitching.

Il see if I can get the link

Their colour choice is rather limited and diasppointing Not a snigle shade of tan or cream which I think is what you are after.

Not sure about these people but the leather my brother got off the people I mentioned fit side airbags. My brother decided to fit the leather himself and just let the motor trimmers do the door trims. He fitted the leather to his drivers seat last night and it looks great and feels so nice. The leather is so much better than that crap ford and holden use. I will get some pics up as soon as its all fitted.

I will get my leather soon after I get my xr6t.

I'm interested in this thread, because I have to have the coupe done. I've made some tenatative approaches to a place in Sumner Park = "Customline Trimming ". Going for the Senator leather at this stage, if the price is right.
