after some diff info i have a 75 model 2 door mk11 it has a removable center was wondering if this was a standard diff in the 1600. it is 3.93 ratio can you get a 3.25 or similar ratio to fit. any help would be appreciated.

As far as I am aware, the tallest ratio you can get is a 3.54:1, not sure why you'd want a ratio any taller then that...

country driving all of its life so want good legs over acceleration. plus are they removable centre or integral

It doesnt work like that if you put in too tall a diff the engine works very hard and you use LOTS more fuel, ask anyone that has put big tyres on a 4x4 less rpm but more fuel overall.

What does it say on the compliance plates, just the model #, engine and trans codes? I say that because I know my Escort was originally an XL 1600, but now it's got GL badges, a Ghia interior and instrument cluster and a 2000cc pinto under the hood...

Oh yeah, you'd probably benefit much more from slotting a 5 speed box behind it then changing the diff ratio. Personally, I'd go for a sierra 5 speed box, pretty easy to fit and same ratios in 1st to 4th, but with an overdrive for 5th.
I think you'd be more then happy if you swapped the 4 speed for a 5 speed ![]()

ok thanks for the help. it does i found the engineer cert for all the mods. used to be a 1600 had a rs2000 front and a group 3 flare kit of rallicross(genuine ford), it has 14 inch wheels so i will try 3.54 first. 10 point rollcage and no back seat

Capris have a 3.22 diff - much bigger ring gear than Escorts but I think the centre distances on the spring eye bolts are the same, so if you found one you could bolt it in drum to drum ... still, I reckon you're better off with a five speed.

thanks for the input had someone suggest fitting a mx5 motor and 5 speed box leaving the current 3.93 diff as the mx5 put out about 75kw from a lighter lower capacity engine. any thoughts ????
