so my engine is toast

so i got my car serviced a little while ago
i think a week, possibly a week and a half ago.

today im driving it to work with my sister in the passenger seat because she works just around the corner from me and half way there the oil light comes on, i was right near a servo so i dived for it to get some more

the dude poured some in out of his barrel and it poured straight out the bottom of the engine
:( :( :(

long story short the guy that servied my car at the place i took it to didnt tighten the sump plug properly it worked its way out and now my engine is cactus

was a damn good engine too, only 150000 on the clock and still putting out factory power with pretty much no engine mods.

the place is going to rebuild and or get a reco engine for me for free but its such an ar$e thing to happen.

worst day in a long time :(

Damn matey ..... that sucks the big one.

I would be all over them like a fly over the proverbial if they did the work to replace it.

If they got a reco I would want an independent inspection to make sure the reco is OK .... sometimes there not what they seem.

Can you get a quote from someone else and then get the $$$$ from them to get the work done somewhere dependable ????

nah they will do the work,

and someone there who sucks less than the guy who did it in the first place.

its not a little place, and i know everybody that works there.

cant really say more because it will turn into a vendor verdict that im not willing to make but rest assured im going for a total rebuild done by one of their senior guys.

Its good they are replacing/repairing it some workshops would really stuff you around and deny any wrong doing

when you say toast...what you mean?
there should have been enough residule oil left on the block for the few meters you drove after the oil light came on....or did you drive until grinding kinda noises appeared?
i would have thought they could have just replaced the gaskit/tightened the sump. put some new oil in her and away you go again.
or did the block seeze?

sucks though...hope it gets sorted soon for you.

The moral of the story is to do oil changes yourself.

Quick, easy and you get that greasy oily 'just worked on me motor' smell that makes girls think your some rugged bloke.

I was going to say makes girls moist, BUT thats far too vulgar for my liking!

thats bad luck mate, mechanics apprentices make mistakes like all the rest of us , good to see they are going to fix their screw up all the same, hope they give you a good engine in return.

I spoke to someone who drove that road after me and he said there was oil on the road a fair way back before where i saw the light come on. so helled if i know what the good the light is.

they have already said they will do what it takes but they are going to put some oil in it tomorrow and start it up while i watch just to see what happens. will be interesting.

lets remember that the light represents low oil pressure. it can be low on oil and still have good pressure.

Any low oil pressure warning means you should stop instantly, i mean c'mon. Even the low water light makes me myself.

You should have stopped instantly mate. new sump plug + oil and you'd probably be rocking.

Just need to go to the wreckers and you'll be sure to find a 0,000km e-series cluster

i don't know how accurate the oil light is, my oil pressure gauge said the pressure was low, well when i did a change of oil on my old ed.. after driving for a bit the oil filter came lose a bit and the oil light came on? it didn't click to me at the time it could be the oil filter .. until i noticed oil dripping full on.

good luck with ya engine it might just need oil
