I suspect the departure will be little mourned.

Electric cars are still not a viable alternative to fuel burning vehicles.

Looks like GM just couldn't generate enough contacts to move the required number of vehicles.

7 months of unsold inventory.

Maybe GM should have asked Obummer to pass legislation that all 'mericans need to buy one GM-Volt (or give the taxpayers a free one for bailing out GM in 2008 as a thank you).

Watt is the world coming to. All these re-volt-ing puns.

Can't you lot conductor serious conversation?

If we can’t develop some resistance to this then we should pull the plug on this thread.

At least the car will be back next year. Maybe we’ll also get to see a Volts Wagon? I’d be ex-static to see that.

With enough sales, GM will be back in the black in no time.

Sales went flat, maybe they charged too much for a volt?

This.

Sales definitely need an upward spike.

I saw a red one the other day.

Have to admit, I thought that the basic theory was sound, and a good alternative to a true electric car. I'd give one a try.

I think they've shot themselves in the foot with the styling. They've "Done A Prius".
When focus groups were shown various stylings of the Prius, the people most likely to buy them gravitated towards the off looking abomination we ended up with. The thing is, the sort of person who wanted to buy a Prius not only wanted to own a Prius, but more importantly wanted to be seen to be driving a Prius...a feeling of smugly saying to everyone "Look at how green I am and how green you aren't".
That's why the just-as-good Honda Civic Hybrid and Hybrid Camry...both perfectly acceptable hybrid cars, if not as fuel efficient as you might think and which also require you to ignore the rather horrifying environmental damage of the production of the battery packs...don't sell very well. Drive one, and you might be driving any old Civic or Camry...how are people supposed to know how green you are!!!!???

We know how well Marketing, sales and service has been going for Ford Aus... Wouldnt be surprised if it was this blokes decision to pull out of Supercars and not to market the Falcon...

Way too overpriced/overspecced in comparison to the Prius.

The ecowarriors buying hybrids don't want fancy interiors like the ones in the Volt. Check an interior out - pretty funky.

Makes me wonder why they are bothering to do an all new one, which will go on sale next year?

I think Holden sold less than 50 here last year.

Because it is recognisable as an electric car, as earlier posters have said its fashionable to some people to be seen in an electric/hybrid car, if it is not easily recognised as being electric it will struggle to get the target audience interested

Just looked on carsales and new $65k one with 568kms $42k.

Way too expensive. At $30k they may have worked here.

I paid $24k for a Focus trend and it averaged 7.1l/100km over 44000kms. There is no way a Volt would have saved me any money even if I never ran it on petrol.
