Take your car to an air conditioning specialist.
They can test it and tell you.

And also you should be able to tell by listening to see if the air conditioning compressor is cutting in and out.

No gas = no operation.

Usually around $100 - $150 to re-gas the system, but ring around to see who charges what.

also you may wish to divulge what type of car you're talking about

for instance, if it's a BA or BF, the mixer shaft might be broken

IF your car has ran out of aircon gas, there is a reaosn.

You will need to find out the reason. Most common is when the aircon is not in use for a long period of time, the seals go hard and crack.

If this is the case then regasing the system will be a temp fix and you will need to replace your seals.

Go to a aircon place they will chcek out the system and tell you what is wrong with it.

Do not waste your money on just regasing, get it checked.

Most auto electricians have the aircon license, take it to one of them.
