Default forum headings move/changed around

is there any reason that all the forums headings have been moved or is it just on my end?

Some changes are being made for the new year, you will have bear with us whilst Russ implements them.

The six cylinder tech is in "The Workshop" now located three down from the Pub on the main forum page.

Be sure to let us know when you've comfortably found everything again, so we know when to change things. :

just kidding - we are also looking at a few things that should we be able to get them functioning properly should make it a lot easier to navigate around.

If forum headings are being changed/moved around is there any chance the word "professional" can be changed to "commercial" in the Motorsport Pits.

There are quite a few race drivers, race car builders, race pit crew etc in this forum many of whom are very professional in their approach but they do it for fun not profit

A bit like commercial fishermen as opposed to people who are VERY professional in their fishing but they do not do it for money

If you can pull that off I have a few more suggestions as well, with some suggested stickys for 2010 in the motorsport area about how to get into it etc

reason i asked is it was so convenient to go to the work shop and just click on the Cleveland forum rather then clicking on v8 section then having to click on Cleveland it made this site very user friendly and quick so keep that in mind

lol just looked and its been changed since i last looked lol all good

cheers jak

Easy to say there was nothing wrong when you are not the one moving 400+ threads per quarter to the correct tech areas.

With the workshop now having more visibility there really is no reason not to use it.

^ What he said

All now in one neat little package for everyone to see ..... referencing is now easy and is in one area. Like all changes, some might have to think about where something is for a sec but won't take long to get used to it.

Whats a quarter? I'm assuming 3 months. If that's the case, then its about 5 per day. That does not seem excessive to me. Especially considering the amount of mods - might equal one each per day.

Like I said in my previous post, if it aint broke it aint need fixing.

its being made easier for new forum members to navigate or people who dont post much... the easier it is for them, the more active this forum is, the better for everyone

its also going to be easier for people to find the relavent posts to their questions so all those who whinge about the same threads popping up wont have as much to complain about :P

Glad you think its thats simple and you don't really notice the other work that is done as this is just a part of it. It is actually good that the mods here can do there work quietly and you do not get to see some rubbish that does find its way here, via spam etc

You do relise you need to read every thread that is moved to determine if it needs moving .... and of course read all those other threads that remain.

Within the forums that require this kind of thread relocation, the task falls to about 8 people who volunteer their time to help with the smooth running of this site. If a simple change like this is effective in reducing their workload then we are going to try it.

It doesn't change the mode of navigation, merely moves the workshop up one level so I fail to see what your issue is.

Russ

I don't have an issue. It seems though that a mod was complaining about moving 400+ threads a quarter to the relevant forum. Which I pointed out is about 5 per day which I don't really see as a massive workload - especially if it is spread between 8 mods. And if they are complaining about having to moderate these forums, then maybe you can get someone else to do it?

Don't get me wrong, I think you guys do a great job - I'm just saying I liked it the way it was and that I didnt think it needed rearranging.

That's the problem with only having half the facts. The 400 odd thread moves is on top of the 3-4,000 other moderation actions per quarter the bulk of which are done by the same group of people.

To suggest that it was a complaint is to do those individuals a grave injustice - as part of our regular review of what needs to be moderated we also look at ways to improve the workload - which we do achieve having almost a 40% drop in total moderation actions over the last year.

I'm sorry you don't like the change but you'll simply have to learn to live with it.

Russ

Just out of curiosity, what was changed exactly? I was online when a couple of things changed over a 10 - 15min time period the other day but looking at it now is it just The Workshop that has been moved?
