Default How to register an UN-registered car in vic?

Hey guys and girls, ive just picked up a bit of a project car, shouldnt take long to finish, but my main concerns are returning it to the road. The rego ran out in april.

What im after is any info about what i need to do to get it re- registered. I searched high and low on the vic roads site, and here, but came up with nothing :(

Also, if people know what costs will be associated will be a great help!

Cheers
Scott

Scott the things you need to look at are

receipt of ownership

all the road worthy side of things

then you need to have a current road worthy cert

then take it to vic roads for the rego side of it all

hope that helps

Jason

And on top of that dont forget to make an appointment at the local rego branch or they wont see you.

And be organised, the appointment booking fee is non refundable !

Is the project modified much ? (you may need an engineers report if it is)

Cheers and goodluck

Cheers! do they still put cars over the pits at the vicroads office?
Its a vk 308 4 speed berlina. Not going forced induction, just going to tidy it up, make it look nice, for a weekender. Im applying for a permit tomorrow, so i can get it around and checked out, etc.

thanks

edit: Is it better to get a vic-roads accredited tester, or just any rwc workshop?

Scotty, I did this on Monday with my ED.

Went into vicroads and got an unregistered vehicle permit so I could drive it, and a rego form. I also made an appointment at this time.

I went out, got the RWC and filled out the rego form.

Once I turned up for the appointment, they looked at the RWC, the rego form and the receipt of sale (proof of ownership).

I put it over the pits and the tester looked at the compliance plate and the engine number, that was it!
$800 later I have some number plates and a rego sticker.

I spent 10 minutes at vicroads, it was a piece of p|ss!

It is very easy in Vic now .... just any RWC bloke who can fill out the form. As Allen said, Vic roads do not do the inspection. They just check that the numbers are all OK ..... takes all of 5 minutes ..... they wouldnt care if you pushed it there and in 7 different colours ..... as long as you have that slip.
