Default What is this cause I have no idea?!

For the past two days I've seen these on my way to and from work and cannot for the life of me figure out what they actually are. It's a camera of some kind from what I can see, but apart from that I have no ideas!

There is another one on the other side of the road facing the traffic coming towards it. Doesn't appear to have a car attached to either one from what I could see either.

I THINK it monitors traffic flow and congestion so they can alter traffic lights to create better signal sequences.

.....this is so they can make sure you're always speeding away from the green light and getting flashed half a mile up the road but seriously, the first part I'm pretty sure is what they are.

have used similiar type of cameras in toowoomba for traffic survey for traffic light runs etc. although we had big "survey equipment in use" signs up. actually employed a security guard round the clock cause they were worth so much money.

Usually if theres a copper 50mtres up the road but can't see any in the pic. But that was my guess too. Our locals had one and set it up in the boot where it wasn't as visible. Either way they get bucketloads with them.

So the rego checks are to see who's driving unregistered/suspended vehicles etc?
