Default The million dollar GTs

For a feature on this 'shed', catch the next issue of Performance Ford out Wednesday 28th...

Quote:
Two Melbourne businessmen have paid a record $1 million for a pair of rare Ford Falcon GT sedans. Friends and business associates Leo Khouri and Steve Dellidis this week took delivery of a 1967 XR GT Falcon in original condition with 34,000 genuine miles on the clock and a restored 1970 GT Falcon that had travelled just 72,000 miles. The $400,000 and $600,000 paid for the respective cars are believed to be records for those models.

The 1967 GT is regarded as the best example of its type, having won three concourse events, and the 1970 model is also a multiple trophy winner. In recent years baby boomers (those born before 1960) have been pushing the prices of muscle cars to record highs. But now younger collectors are joining in the craze and many others are using their personal superannuation funds as a tool to buy muscle cars.

Among a collection of bikes and other rare cars Khouri, 42, and Dellidis, 34, now have a total of 16 immaculate GT Falcons, said to be the largest private collection in Australia.

Wouldn't it be nice to have that much cash to throw around. With these cars in hot demand, not sur I'd be wanting my pic or name released to the public. Paranoia springs to mind :peep:

Trying real hard to look tough.

I know it has low k's but isn't 400k a bit much for an XR GT. You could just about get a Ph3 for that.

And failing miserably lol, they may as well have shown their address, the times when they're not at home, and the location of the spare key. especially with stealing Gt's is now the 'in' thing to do.

Id say owning a large collection of GT's is good reason to advertise it.
Pushing prices up is in their best interest.

I still maintain a stolen Phase 3 worth 750K is only worth about the same value in parts to a thief as a really good replica... 95% of the value of a Phase 3 is in its LEGALLY registrable identity.. you can't sell a stolen identity..

We were amazed at PF ourselves - in our magazine feature there were no people shots, and not even a FIRST name. The story above was published by Sydney Morning Herald today and put online through their network of websites...

bet they didnt get permission to release it that way...and if they did then the owners are confident in their cars not getting targeted for theft...

I agree, but thieves are generally not the brightest. They see the million dollar price tag and think they are in. The only bigger crime than stealing cars like this is breaking them up for spares.

I hate to see these cars being nicked. The higher the value, and the more likely the car is to be stolen means that the rest of us are increasingly unlikely to see them at shows and cruises.

But articles like this only make the thieving scum's beady little eyes light up at the prospect of a quick-ish buck.
