Escort Mk1 stuff again...model designation

okelies.....the car i own is a 1973 mk1 4 door 1300 XL in lime glaze. info i have seen says that:

model number should be 11336. it is 11736. any explain??

and that the colour is T: Lime Glaze only put on cars 9-10/73. mine is 8/73 any explain??

and could some1 explain what partial VIN means. CK5PNG???

Model number is correct if you have the early type suspension ie shocks mounted to crossbar as opposed to floor as per Mk 2. Even though your car was built in 8/73 it still could be a 1972 model. I've owned 1974 built cars that were 1972 models. The "1973.5" model is the one with the revised suspension which everyone wants for motor sport. They were usually 2drs built in 1975 to run-out the old mk 1 shape. The Mk 2 was on-line by this time. I spoke long and hard to an ex-Ford Engineer, one ALLFORD day in Geelong a few years ago. I was fascinated, but my partner was bored rigid.

Lime Glaze was used from 1972 in Capris, so I'm sure you could have ordered it on an Escort at that time.

Model code 11736 4dr early suspension type
Model code 11336 4 dr later suspension type

Paint colour codes vary quite a bit btwn 1969-75. From 1975 they changed every year, some colours were dropped, old ones allocated different codes. I can only confirm 1969 to 1972 in the Mk 1s and 1975 and 1977 in the Mk 2s from the info I have. You need to get a workshop/parts manual from 1973 to be 100% on codes.

I think one of the main changes was the rear shocks are mounted in a much more upright position - ie in the same direction as they are working!

The later car. The third digit would be the model year indicator - ie 11736 for 1967 and 11336 for 1973.

7 refers to 1972 & 1/2 model as opposed to 3 which is 1973 and 2 which is 1972.
