fuel consumption EL monty.

Live in canberra, travel to work everyday in slight stop start traffic, dont give it to her that often what fuel consumption should i be running at?

Judging from my trip computer I'd say around 12 or 13L/100km.
Which isn't too bad, BA's are about 10L/100km.

yeah thought so, apparently ive got something wrong with my manifold housing, my mechanic poured water over it and the whole car starting mis-firing, he quoted me 300 to get it fixed, he reckons its 3 hours labour for a fairly cheap part.
he said something about my computer will be suckin a bit of air so i may use a bit more petrol until its fixed.

at the moment im at 13.8L/100km

Yeah i guess anywhere between 11.5-14 would be about right.....

Consider changing your o2 sensor as well, i did this and got a huge improvement

You tell him to fix the car for free since he stuffed it, what a crock!

I haven't looked to my average around town, on the highway it sits on 7.

oh I wish mine was like that! 7ltrs per 100km.... im getting 18ltrs per 100km,

it will just be a manifold leak nothing major, go over all the bolts make sure they are tight and make sure the hoses etc are all done up tight and are on correctly, will save you 300 bucks and you learn a lot along the way!

Whats the best way to tell if the O2 sensor is buggered? These availble from autobarn etc? How much roughly?

you can run a diagnostics test as shown in on of those gregorys manuals, or you should be able to tell as it will be running rich and using more fuel than it should, they are avalible from autobran and they are not cheap!!!! and don't get dodgy brand one, get BOSCH one rounghy $170???

Seriously? Something is not right there, either Mr Leadfoot is in action alot or you have a dirty big charger hanging off it. 18/100 on the highway or in town? In town thats understandable, id imagine I would be about 13-14

haha i wish it had a dirty fat charger sitting on top, but its does use 18/100km around town with a bit of mr lead foot in action. on the hwy it get 10-12/100km funny thing is, one of bluepowers Charged BAXR8 (AGRO8) gets 14ltr per 100km and that has 350rwkw which is quite sad for me!!

yeah my old man and i are looking over it this weekend.
about to put Sports exhaust and extractors on it in a few weeks, so want everything to be running smoothly for that little installment.

your all doing better than me, my nl fairlane has been sitting on 14.7l per 100km for the last 2 weeks and barely moves even when im on the highway doing 100k's in no traffic and its a 6 cylinder!!! and i havnt even been lead footing it in fact ive been taking it really easy.

Force = Mass x Acceleration. Which means barge ar$e = fuel consumption

All large Fords deal with it, just Fairlanes are slightly worse. You can have the most efficient engine you like, its still got to lug alot of weight around.

I'm tipping the car weighs a bit more than 78kg!

Re the intake leak, you may need to replace the gasket, mine cracked and a small piece came loose on #6 cylinder

I can get my EL ghia down to about 9 litres per 100 on the highway, but around town stop start heavy traffic it gets around 14.8-15.5 litres per 100.
replaced 02 sensor and it didnt seem to do much, might look at replacing injectors next

My EL ghia 6 is about 11.8 which is a fair mixture of driving in town, and country roads/highway
The XD, well, about 18L/100k's...

thats a doable job yeah?
from what the mech was saying it sounded like he had to pull off a fair few of the bigger parts..

it runs okay, its not missing anymore, its just a bit slow and sometimes sluggish.

cant wait to fix it and have a smooth ride again.
its been like this for a few weeks now..

I get very similar to what you get in my Ghia, let us know how you go if you end up replacing the injectors.
