Can anyone please help me out with some 91 telstar tx5 turbo info at all please. Car surging , at 4k under load m.. just rebuilt head, replaced fuel pump , fuel filter, new plugs and leads, new Hi flow muffler and middle exhaust replaced , mechanics now thinks it's electrical and to take it to auto elec

As '91 was the years the models changed from 2nd to 3rd Gen models, I'm assuming yours is a 2nd Gen 'AV' model because the only Telstar sold in AU in '91 was the TX5 until the first 3rd Gen models in 1992.
I'd be inclined to agree that it's probably electrical but there are a few possibilities.

Check any earth points on the cylinder head given the head has come off, make sure they're clean and secure.
Also check the ignition coil given it sounds like it's breaking under load, also even though it's got a new fuel pump get it hooked up to a fuel pressure gauge and watch it while getting stuck into the car. I had a VY Clubsport I fixed playing similar shenanigans - started and drove perfectly fine, until you got stuck into it then at 3500 RPM it just stopped and wouldn't go anymore. Fuel pressure was 58 PSI at idle, on starting and driving normally but if you got stuck into it, dropped to 19 PSI. Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 12-10-2019 at 11:22 AM. |
