Default Holden brand; Is it only me, but the brand is looking so outdated.

I was driving past a dealership, and just the name "Holden" gives me an outdated image, maybe 80's.
Time to retire the name I think...

It is far fresher and more current than the Ford brand within the buying public's mind.

Certainly cant throw mud until Ford is actually selling more cars.

In saying that their range sucks.

The look of the dealerships reminds me of the 90s/early 00s (for some reason) however I don't think the brand is stale, if anything their marketing/branding peeps are great at subtle nips and tucks that keep the Holden 'vibe' fresh.

Ford on the other hand, while not being stale is just...a little off at the moment.

Other than commodore, not 1 other car they sell interests me. Will be very interesting to see how Holden go when the commodore goes. Ford have a great range now, but aren't selling, go figure

Agreed, never underestimate the stupidity of large groups of people perhaps?

I'd quite like an Everest to replace my territory and Ranger to replace my ute some day.
Nothing from the Red side interests me in either variant.

Why not? if a brand is on the nose, then we can most certainly discuss, has nothing to do with how many cars Ford sell. Having said that, I do know where your coming from mate.

My view is the Holden brand is dated and forever associated with the Commodore/boganism/fleet.

Might be worth them investigating moving to another nameplate in their stable, Opel was tried and failed but it could be seen as a more prestigious brand than Holden or perhaps Chevrolet would given them a racier nameplate?

You could say exactly the same thing about Ford/Falcon.

Certainly a lot of Commodore drivers don't like the Holden brand, replacing the badge with a Chevy badge.

Holden advertising has always been effective and a killer weapon in the Ford vs Holden days, but to me since this transition period began with the whole 'lets go there' thing which just seemed kind of half assed and mightve worked in the 70's and the Astra and drone thing, it just doesn't have the grunt it used to have. Have they shafted their old marketing team or something? (no comment on Fords quality, but at least their quantity is up there now) I used to watch Holden ad's and understood why they sold cars...

Was going to say Cadillac, but apart from the Caprice none of the cars they make are even close to being worthy for that badge.

Generally and for a long time now their range has been inferior to the competition yet they still manage to sell well.
Ive always hated the VE-F range and think they look look poxy with the flared wheel arches on an incredibly bland boxy design. Everyone seems to love them though -I'll never understand this

The range as a whole, Ford is definitely a lot fresher and overall better. 2 out of the 3 choices I'm considering for my next car are Fords. If the rumored XR6T limited edition comes out that will go to 3 out of 4.

You really have to give credit to Holden though because I would not even consider any other car from their range than a Commodore yet they pull it off.

Ah...no sense of history.

Ford as a brand is a hell of a lot older than Holden...in fact the name badge script they use is almost exactly the same as seen on a Model T radiator. Now that's being stuck in the past...

Oh no, I think there's nothing wrong with keeping links to the past, especially logos. I wish Holden still used the Lion in fact, as it has an interesting history. Ford is great too for not changing their script since the beginnings.
Changing company names and branding every few years to be "trendy" doesn't do anyone any favours...

The lion is pretty stylised now...nothing wrong with the original lion with an uneven rock under his paw.

You really could say the same thing about Ford fans and boganism, just look on here for example.

The Chev badge thing is just a thing that goes back to the past when Holden owners who put in chev motors would put a chev badge on.

As a customer....I don't give a rats about sales figures.....just a good car. So compared with what Ford offers over Holden......Holden has zero chance! They sell JUNK compared with Fords offerings.
But that's still all relative as they are still new/modern cars, and even a Junk new Holden is good enough to pull the wool over lazy buyers eyes!

I am not big fan of Holden current offerings with an exception of Sportwagon - that was a great idea , good looking wagon with power and relatively affordable. For people who don't want an SUV it is a great option.

When they don't make Holden's in Australia sure why not let the Holden name go, as history goes to show that all the other GM cars had their own brand names when sold in Australia.
If it's a product of another country why not call it what it is, GM what ever it be.

My experience is that holden has younger buyers..

They usually transition through the holden brand, buy new in their 20s and 30s and then mature into a euro car or exotic by the time they hit their 40s+... a lift in class.

Whereas ford new buyers are usually older fold upgrading from their used fords. They dont really lift themselves in class. Plus the ford owners think they have something special.

I think people have become confused a bit. The OP was commenting on his perception of the Holden brand as a whole and not about their range. Most on here would agree that the Ford products are superior to almost anything Holden has put a badge on. However as we know superior product doesn't necessarily reflect what Mr Joe Public thinks when he sees a Holden dealership and a Ford dealership.
