There are definitely dangers associated with imported second hand vehicles as a result of its unknown history. Consumers need to be protected against that.
That article also commented on the abolition of the luxury car tax - a move that I would support wholeheartedly, as it would make "luxury" cars cheaper. There's no reason why we should pay more here for a Merc or BMW than what people pay in the US (for example). If the luxury car tax was scrapped, these cars would be much more affordable.

No reason? Its called taxation. Do you think if they abolished it they wouldnt find another way to tax you? They rely on the money that it generates, they arnt going to give it up so people can have cheaper luxury cars.
