Default USB extension from glove box to centre console?

I really don't get why they have put the USB plug in the glove box of our MB titanium instead of the centre console, and with the recent software upgrade that now allows the iphone to run sound through the USB instead of the single pin output it makes me think it would be pretty easy to run a USB extension cable from inside the glovebox and down behind the centre console without too much effort.
Has anyone done this or seen it done and if so any tips to do it well?
