Default What 2nd car ????

Hey guys I`m looking for some advice on a 2nd car. I need to get a cheap 2nd car to travel to work in, it will get driven twice a week, Friday night so I can get home and Sunday mornings so I can pick up my Truck then it just sits until I need it again. So you can see why I`m not keen using my Ford. I`m not worried about brand Toyota Nissan etc as long as its cheap and reliable.

G11 charade, dont laugh, its only 993cc motor but i have been driving mine now for over 6 months to and from work which is over 100 kilometers a day, cost next to nothing to run, has over 360,000kms on the clock and still keeps going! its not a target for theft. i dont really care if it gets scratched, or dinged.
all i have to do is keep up basic maintenece on it, who can argue when new tyres for it cost $39 each!

Any of the main japanese 4s are what you want for a cheap run around.

Corolla, Laser, 323, Pulsar etc

If it's not too far to work get a cab. By the time you add reg & insurance your in for $20 a week without fuel or bying a car.

If it's a bit further F series - a tow car is always useful. Just an idea.

we had a little 1.8L 88 model Ford laser for 12 months or so, only ever cost me the fuel i put in it. Well i tell a lie we had new brake pads put in it, but other than that it was cheap to buy and cheap to run, and very reliable, and it had done well over 250000km and went quite well. Mine didnt have the fuel injection so was relatively simple. but there are heaps around

If it involves a bit of highway driving, you can't go past an old falcon on gas (buy old i'm talking E series, not worth getting anything any older). On gas, it will be cheaper to run than most small 4 cylinders and a lot more spacious and comfortable.
This said, I personally would go for a standard model rather than a Fairmont or something, mainly to avoid any aging electronics (power windows, cruise control) that may prove troublesome.

Get a KC-E laser. Make sure you get the fuel injected one (TX3s and some GIHAS) as they are much better on fuel and have much more power. I used to have a N/A TX3 with 440,000 on hte clock ,and it used a similar amount of petrol to my wifes 1.0L G100 charade, with much more go to boot.
