As long as it is secured well on a pallet and wrapped at least (not leaking either) ... most courier companies will be able to send it anywhere for you.
You will need to let them know exact dimensions and weight to they can give you a price. Also A and B-end addresses as well. Pretty much standard stuff for sending items interstate. Overnight backhaul is usually the cheapest rate.

I deal with freight companies everyday, I manage a warehouse in Sydney. In my experience with something heavy/fragile/expensive like an engine you are better off finding someone with a ute and paying them $150 plus fuel to drive it up. It's only VIC- ACT, its not a huge trip and I wouldn't trust a big company.

Allow $15o to get it to syd and another $75 to act max. Vic to act isn't a very common route and it will be quicker and cheaper to run it via syd first.

You also get the piece of mind that it is being looked after and not trashed in a couriers depot/truck. To me that’s worth any extra freight costs!! |

Obvious some people don't work for courier companies ... and to take a single ute to do that delivery off the fleet for the day ... it will be WELL over $200 a day. You need to take into account a few things ... the driver's time ... fuel ... and running costs ... it also includes their return run costs as well.
It goes on distance and classed as an express rate country job (if using a metro fleet vehicle) ... I did a Sydney to Inverell night job (one small box) .... mind you this would be similar distance to Melb to Act ... and I was paid a handsome sum of $900 for the job (this was through the company i work for) ... and engine would cost you more. Cheaper to put it on the back of the semi ... much cheaper indeed ... and the larger companies have a responsibility to make sure the item makes it there in one piece. Put it this way ... Sydney to Canberra is on average a $300-$400 job ... depending on size ... and that's to the driver ... the company makes money on top of that ... so the customer gets charged more than that.
