The stance, the wheelbase, the position of wheels.. these wont change for the concept car.. this car, if it is based on Orion will be very interesting to see.
Id be looking more to Europe than the US for design cues.

The I6 had been with the falcon for years, and the DOHC has had alot of money spent on it, its a shame to not use it now.

The mKS has no relation to the Orion.

The yet to be named concept, which will be unveild in early January is what I'm referring to as a yard stick to the Orion.

Not the images of the mKS concept on the first page.

Which must mean the Lincoln unveiled in January will be bigger, and may give more of a hint of a possible LWB Fairlane/LTD (rebadged Lincoln, rather than a locally built stretched Falcon)
The MKS looks to be as big as a Falcon.

Ford have had huge problems in making/moving/selling their LWB models here. I can only see them continuing the LWB models if they have arranged an export market for them - which it sounds like they have. Also sounds like Australia is starting to put the automotive industry on our map... as the world slowly gets a glipse at our pride and joy...

I would imagine that ford australia will design the chassis based on orion tooling. Similar to what holden are doing with the VE. One chassis fits all. However the next falcon will definitley be european design. Its a well known fact that australians aren't too keen on modern american styling.

I see a bit of Lancia in the back of the MKS, however the rest of it looks a bit Japanese with mish-mash of design elements. The side DLO looks unresolved and awkward, while top and lower grills clash.

It would be interesting to see what engine is mentioned when this un-named concept is revealed at Detroit.

I don't think they'd use a car that didn't follow with Europe's current DNA

I think the new LWB cars for Australia should be under Lincoln's name. Ford should just sell the SWB ones... That way sales for the LWB should go up. Same like how Toyota brands the more expensive cars as Lexus, it seems to work for them.

Thumbs down No Orion Based Lincoln...

Well guy's after a bit digging it seems our friends within the media were making assumptions that the Lincoln concept would be Orion/E8 based. I've just read that the Lincoln concept will be based on the Mustang platform as will the RWD Ford Interceptor concept due at Detroit.

Where does this leave Ford Australia and future Falcon/Territory programs after the 2008 E8/Orion?

Ford Australia is saying no and Lincoln/Ford Interceptor concepts are based on the Mustang platform.

From autoblog.com

Quote:
The rumor mill began on Wednesday when both Autocar and AutoWeek claimed to have an inside source that confirmed that the Mustang brand would be broadened, likely using the underpinnings from Ford's Australian arm. Earlier today, Ford Australia denied such a connection.

tThe concepts would be based off the mustang platform since Orion hasnt undergone testing yet, plus the mustang platform would be cheaper for a concept for Ford US. The production version however, would most likely be based off the Orion platform _2:

Apparently not. The DC2 platform that the Mustang sits on is relatively new and very good from most reports. Forget comments about the live axle rear suspension as it's designed to incorperate a fully independent set up. Ford Australia have stated that they're not involved with any up coming RWD sedans in the US, so they won't be based on the 2008 E8/Orion Falcon come production time.

Well that just sux! whats gonna happen if the Orion is a sales flop? buh bye falcon is what im guessing, unless of course, Ford US starts making money. I think Ford US should realise that aussies make better RWD platforms.

If I can recall correctly Ford Australia are looking to other markets like the Middle East and expanding their presence in the Asia Pacific region. I think China could be on the cards for Falcon's one day, wether they're actually built there or not is something for discussion.
