Just ran another test on my ADSL2+ to check what it's like now since install.
Only things that would be using bandwidth are: - Connection on the PC - Connection to my virtual work desktop - Wii U (which is off but receives notifications) Server selected was Telstra at Brisbane (approx 45km away) Down - 20.48mb Up - 0.88mb This was solid too so I guess during the day there isn't much line traffic, if I did this in 5 hours time it would fluctuate like an old door in a breeze. NBN is being built here now so I guess I really can't complain.

I can almost guarantee that Netflix is causing this, my ADSL has never run slower, it has never connected this poor until Netflix has been launched, it couldn't just be a coincidence? Think about it, each area is connected to an exchange which speeds are affected by how many people use the exhange and what they are using it for, if the street your on and the surrounding streets every 3rd house is using Netflix it's going to have to have an impact at some stage surely?

If it still slow at early hours of the morning or off peak times, its not Netflix. Thats my case, can be fast even during peak times, or slow at 3AM in the morning. |

Telstra bloke has come and gone. Replaced couplings at the house end and power pole end and replaced a connector at the stump at the end of the street. I had to leave before I could test the 'net but the audible noise is gone.

It's still poo. The sync speeds have come up a bit, but nowhere near the usual levels.

sometimes you can get lucky being allocated a DNS server with less congestion..

The problem with FTTN is scalability and also the Opex given extra power and servicing. Mine is being installed now and im not happy i wont have fibre to my home.
I will connect my elderly folks to it who live over the way from me and see how they go. may put in a high power WiFi modem so they can continue to get the bundle discounts I don't need on a home phone (and their in 80s so don't use much) and run TV off it. Its such short sightedness this change to FTTN. I wish the pollies would take the politics out of advancing what Australians deserve. Was a sound plan. And i think the copper has been dug up and stolen in my street

![]() My (ADSL2) speed here in the bush is like our petrol prices. Crappy, but consistent, it's always around the 7, regardless of the time of day. But my server is 500km's away, not around the corner like Damo and Falcon Coupe's

I was stuck on 3G for 18 months until two weeks ago. I was more than happy with the speed, but the data cost was very high. I was able to stream Netflix in HD without issue.
A company has now setup Fixed Wireless in town, I'm 8km from the tower and very happy with the speed and the cost for 500GB a month. ![]() Joke is, NBN have almost finished the Fixed Wireless in town so I'll go from nothing to having choice... ![]()

Still some issues on Telstra's end for them, they drop down to .20mbps when its having issues.
Also today, changed my line profile to fast: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4351103908 Picked up 2mbps and ping dropped down to 9ms from 25. ![]() Have we got anyone on Telstra's HFC network down here? One of my family friends in Broadmeadows is getting a 100mbps solid connection on it. Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 11-05-2015 at 01:37 PM. |

The majority of my suburb got NBN last year except my development area. To add insult we started experiencing slowdowns during evening and on weekends like you are, slowing down to as little as 1 or 2 down. We used to get 16Mbit any time of day before it happened. It lasted for 5 to 6 months. Not long before Christmas it came good all of a sudden and is now back to 16Mbit any time of day or night. I think all the NBN users (and foxtel channels on t-box) were overloading the backhaul. They obviously fixed it eventually but it was a frustrating 6 months. Hopefully one day you will discover yours has been sorted as well.
