I doubt the intentions were suicidal, more likely some goose trying to prove something to himself and all around him. The game of Chicken lives on!

Yeah no-one doing the dumb guy thing has ever lost it and come of 2nd best, that could never happen!!

I appreciate your fright from what has been a nasty situation but it is unlikely, (not impossible) that your oncoming risk was an intended suicide pilot! Thankfully in your case at least no injury or death was encountered!

It may have been your frightening situation but judging someones mental state whilst trying to avoid a collision and maintain control of your own vehicle, will be just as much a guess as any other assumption. I'm surprised drugs and or alcohol have not been suggested either.

Well if this was an attempt on his life, maybe he might realise what he was trying to do was the wrong thing. You do hear stories of people trying to take their lives, but surviving and having a new outlook.

We really should try and work out what the motive of the driver was before we just assume he was trying to kill himself - although that said, a high number of single car accidents involving males are suicides

Glad to hear your ok Rob.

I just hope that should this d|ckhead recover, the cops ban him from driving. Hopefully if nothing else they follow up on your report.

Now, find him and make sure that this isn't the last time he's in hospital. (if you get my drift).

Great to hear you are both ok!!

Just on the quote above - this is something I always stress to my wife. No matter how safe you are when it comes to driving, you have to constantly be aware of your surroundings - because you might not be the one that causes the accident.

Being aware of dangerous drivers (intentional or not) is one of the most important skills drivers can have on the roads (checking mirrors, being aware of 150m ahead, not just 20m etc etc). Good to see you have these skills and they saved you from a very bad situation!

EDIT:

On a side note - a few months back I was driving home in QLD (along the ipswich mottorway from jindalee area towards mt gravatt for those who know it) and it's a 4 lane motorway (2 lanes each way with a massive 4 meter wide division between the two) - and a Taxi was driving on the wrong side of the road right towards me...

I ofcourse slowed down and got over incase it was a similar situation to what Rob described - thankfully I think he was either to drunk (hope not - being a Taxi) or to stupid to know what he was doing... how this moron is driving a taxi is beyond me!

(before anyone asks - i wasn't able to get any details such as licence etc to inform the taxi company as it was at night time and avoiding the oncoming headlights was more important)

glad you are ok . i'd make sure i catch up with this bloke in hopital if i were you. if nothing else just to twist his broken leg .but i'd embarrass the priyyk. and ask him what you did in life to make him try to murder you. and if you should consider him your enemy .make him feel it man he has done a terrible thing . but you will probably find he will pay for this all his life . and he was probably under the influence of something.looking forward to the story here . keep us posted .

Good to hear your came out of it without a mark on you, the misses or the car. A good bit of driving by the sounds of things. To bad you weren't driving a Mack truck with a big bull bar.

Good to hear that you came out of this with a valuable lesson, you cant trust anyone else on the road, as much as you want to. As some other people have said, i hope he is confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life so he has time to think how he could have hurt innocent people. What a looney.
Cheers

Wow, that is insane. You are very lucky. I wonder if the idiot is from Rosedale, or even from the area. The person was probably on drugs or something. There are quite a few druggos at Rosedale. I grew up around that area (at Maffra) and I travel those roads regularily. It certainly makes me worried for my safety knowing these tools are on the road. It is very selfish of them, trying to kill innocent motorists, just because they want to kill themselves. As for the empty police station, from what I've heard, that is pretty common at Rosedale.

Guys.. even though what he did was both insane and wrong... and its a shame that the tree didnt do a better job in a lot of ways... its probably worth thinking about that whatever drove him to do it is probably an illness of some kind. Going to pay him a visit and give him a "bashing" probably wont help either Rob or this guy get over this. Maybe a visit to see if he's ok.. and a talk to try and find out why first would be a better way to move on.

I'm not condoning his actions but does that make doing something even worse right? We are often judged by how we react to things in our lives... maybe a bit more thought on how Rob would be judged after bashing this guy is something we should think of.

Rob, dont do it. Talk to him if you must but dont go and do something that you may regret later.

That is exactly why I am always looking for an escape route.. Have had a few close calls myself. driving on country roads and impatient people mostly in Patrols or Landcruisers doing stupid overtaking moves.

You have to ask why wouldn't he have just stayed in the garage with a hose? or like in groundhog day jump in the bath with a toaster??

Glad to hear you and the mrs are ok...

Rob. Two things:

1. I hope there were no scratches on your car.
2. Perhaps the guy was having a fit (Epileptic, diabetic, etc). Your sister should be able to find that stuff out.

I know it seems like he kept swerving at you, but it is poosible that if was having a fit and his body slumped one way or the other, it just kept going. Of course, it may be that he did want to take you out too, and you certainly did a good job avoiding that.

PHEW!! Bet that made the sphincter twinge!
Great that you and the 'wife to be' are unharmed.
Lucky that the tool in mention did come on your side of the road from a bit of a distance, not half a car length. Bit of warning is better than none! Great skills by the way.
These sick minded individuals that do this sort of crap have no place in society, have them condemned to a mental institution, they obviously have a "problem", lockem up and throw away the key. And this go's for people that throw projectiles out of their windows at oncoming traffic ing_sm

The wife and i never trust other drivers, very defensive, the girl as got skills! gotten us out of trouble a few times.

Also, i agree with capser on the "don't do anything you will regret" thing.

have him charged for attempted murder X2 using a motor vehicle as a deadly weapon, dangerous, reckless driving, endangering life X2.....i can go on if you like.

If you "smack him in the ear" expect yourself to be charged for a minor assault, and then kiss any chance of getting that ***** off the road good-bye.

Well, if the cops were at the scene of the accident where the dick hit the tree, i'm sure they would've done an accident report. Usually if there's a witness who seen them on the road are asked their 'actions'. You i believe.
Make a statement to the cops and have it put in the accident report.? :Up_to_som
