As far as condition goes there's more than afew with less than 10,000kms on the clock, a fellow I know owned #355/502 which had 5,000odd kms as well as the late Trevor Young (biante) had one with 000,260kms on the clock I'm still struggling to see how much extra money the 005 build number and Brock's ownership is worth to some people

I say good luck to them for when you can spend that much you obviously would think they are already living the life/dream - well some yes some not I guess living on the edge.

If I had a lazy mil to throw around on a car it'd be a phase 3, I wouldn't even car what colour, I'm not that fussy

At 3 hours to go it hasn’t moved much.
Shirley if you had this much coin to splash about you’d have gone over the car in person wouldn’t you? Or is it just another cashed up investor hoping to make a dollar down the track

Good on the buyer, a little piece of Australian history.
I guess there are a few Aussies with a bit extra to throw around. The GTHO3 and 4 sold for high 6 figures and old chicken coupe sold for 300k and didn't run, rusted and requires just as much to restore it, but they were Ford's so they're worth it

Some people can drop 20 million on a painting and it doesn't affect their lifestyle at all. So a loaded Brock/Holden fan, or investor, one million to them is nothing.
I was hoping that all these historic one of ones, low-mileage originals from Ford/Holden and Chrysler over the last 5 years were all being bought by the same dude and would unveil his collection someday, but that crazy art dealer ruined my dreams when she purchased that XY and displayed it surrounded by petrified dinosaur &^%^. |

Newsworthy:
https://www.news.com.au/technology/m...741b60b114476e A V8 Holden once owned by Peter Brock has broken records to become the most valuable car built in Australia. Bidding for the 1985 HDT VK Commodore passed the $1m mark before overtaking the $1,050,000 record of a rare HSV Maloo GTSR W1 on Monday. It has already eclipsed the record $1.03 million paid for a classic Australian Ford formerly owned by Australian cricketer Jeff Thomson in 2018. The auction for Brock’s road car closes at 9.30pm tonight. The car is unlikely to beat the outright record price for an Australian car – $2.1 million for a Holden Commodore twice driven to Bathurst victories by Brock and co-driver Larry Perkins in 1982 and 1983. trending in technology |

On the news it said the new owner represented some group (think it was a car group or something, I missed that bit) and they are going to raffle it with tickets for $30.
No, just no. Some bogan will win it and pull skids in the pub car park before getting it seized by Police, that's my fear. I'll certainly buy some tickets (then if I win go pull some skids, hahaha).

It’s culturally inappropriate, reducing this piece to a low-dollar token in a game of chance. There would be an outcry if (say) a work by Albert Namatjira was vended thus.
I’m no particular fan of Peter Brock but recognise he was a lifelong toiler; his ambition was not to earn a right to idleness but to give, to perform, to exceed. If it proceeds to a raffle, this is scarcely better than nineteenth century voyeurism into savages, foreign lands and strange rituals. |

To follow on from cb's post above, I fear for this car if it is raffled.
Having owned a similar HDT some years ago, I know these cars cannot be just driven and serviced at certain intervals. They need constant attention to ensure everything is operating as they should. And items attended to when the need arises. It needs an enthusiast who knows how to care for it, to own it to ensure it is kept and maintained as it should. Otherwise it will be a wreck in no time, tossed into the back yard to languish and rot to nothing. |

Couple of high and mighty posts above here............
So it's perfectly fine to assume that because someone might win it with a $30 raffle ticket that it's going to be destroyed , but if someone paid $1M for it out of their own pocket it's going to be cared for correctly? What a pathetic , elitist attitude.............. In my line of work I deal with all ends of the socio economic scale. I have seen VN commodores in garages that look like brand new cars and I have seen 2 month old BMW M5s in garages with more gutter rash on the rims then an off road racer and the kids snacks from 2 months ago smeared across the back seat. There is just as much chance as someone who wins it in a raffle looking after it like their first born as there is for someone to pay a million dollars for it and leave it rotting in the back corner of a garage because they have bought it just so they have it........................ |

There's some strange presumptions being made if it is won by a bogan for a $30 ticket and who then won't look after it.
This mob paid over $1m for it so there were obviously others who bid around the $1m amount for it to eventually be won for just over etc. So WHY would anyone including a bogan want to hang onto a car that they won for $30 when they can re auction it and possibly get close to $1M. Other than a genuine HSV enthusiast you would have to be a total muppet to want to keep it. |

While it's wrong to assume a bogan will win it & destroy it, precedents have already been set.
This has all happened before with the M/Benz AMG being destroyed doing burnouts in SW Sydney, not too long ago. This car was won in through the same auction/charity company. Admittedly the M/Benz didn't have as much intrinsic value as a VK SS Group A though. Dr Terry |

Whether the new owner is rich or not so rich, knowledge in knowing how to keep such a car and the required capabilities to maintain and repair as required, is what is important. The ability in dealing with the various issues unique and common to original unrestored VK's. Not necessarily doing it all themselves, but knowing to engage the right people when necessary. And nothing to do with bogans either. Lets hope the car ends up in the right hands, better sooner than later. |
