DFB FGXR6, I remember a few years ago in discussion with an American FB group talking about dangerous animals in Australia, some of them fell for the Australian koala drop bear when I posted this picture, they soon realised it was photo shopped, but it was for a good laugh.

You forgot to mention Bobcats.

Once you actually get out into the bush in Australia, it can be a dangerous place

Out mountainbiking we've been chased by angry mother grey's and red's Kangy's, when we've accidently came between the troop and their Joeys.

Been chased by a Eastern Brown snake while jumping several berms, it decided to cross underneath me as I landed. (got my rear tyre) and several other Vipers out riding.
Had a small whale bash the side of our yacht offshore of Newcastle.

Was swooped while riding up Calga Hill by a massive Wedgetail Eagle and was actually bombared by a Sea Eagle, dropping a large half eaten Bream on my head as we rode Ash Island.
This doesn't count all the times we've been attacked by Maggies, Butcher birds and noisy miners nesting.
That's apart from all my Funnel Web spider close encounters while working along the Northern beaches of $ydney and plenty of various snake encounters working on properties.

Yeah they are all out to get you.

That photo is obviously faked.
Unlike Koalas, Dropbears can live anywhere in Australia, including FNQ, NT and Kimberley, as they are carnivorous and don't rely on gum leaves for nourishment.
It is common knowledge that any who disappears in the bush is the result of a Dropbear attack, as nobody has actually seen one and lived to tell the tale.

You would be horrified at the number of leaks that are not attended for weeks on end before the Water utility companies respond.
I had water leak on my front lawn, was reported and I waited for a week until the lawn decided to grow in a camel's hump gushing water, then it was prioritised urgent which was actioned in under 6 hours. The workers told me minor leaks wait until they get time to fix these, which can take a long time.
This is just Melbourne suburbs, so just imagine what happens Australia wide.

This happened in our local government area last month:

Thanks Trendseeker for that pipeline burst info. Man, now THAT was a seriously BAD DAY for those poor folks..

Anyway, been thinking lately about Diesel particulate filters and when their doing their burn offs.

How is this better than Ad blue? Most of you would have seen cars / trucks etc belching blue smoke like an old leaded dunga back in the day with stuffed rings / valve guides etc. polluting the crap out of our air supply.

They don't get pulled over for "excessive smoke". But I can bet you a weeks wages that if I drove my old POS V6 Magna down the road blowing that much smoke, I would be the 1st inline for a canary. (that's a defect notice to non Adelaide viewers).

Why is that? Is it because it's shiny and new, and that must mean everything is kosha?
Wonder if I would get chatted to if I put Diesel in a new petrol car and took it for a blast through the CBD. Then once pulled over

I could say it's "normal" officer... and being the dumb doughnut munching ignoramus he, or, she is, probably get away with it.

What are your thoughts peoples?

Cheers,

One thinking insomniac Mad Man

Said it before and I'll say it again. IMO DPF is like running around all day trying to hold in a fart.
Then at the end of the day being allowed to just let one rip while no one is watching.

And just like humans, in the long run, this can not possibly be good.

Hate it when trucks do burn off where I work, we sin bin them to the bottom of the truck parking area, very annoying with them revving their guts out, but hey that's technology for you.

Why is it people think its ok to say something along the lines of "it was always going to happen" or "we knew it would happen at some point" when referencing a person who had been ill for a long time before their death? Well, it might be the truth, but it's certainly not appropriate to say such a thing to someone who is grieving.

But just because there are no kit it doesn't mean people wont or cant try

Few months back I made a tow bar for the Smart car, Only because they don't sell one for a Smartie, not to tow stuff around on the road, more to move the trailer around at home ( not the car trailer ), I used a factory Reese hitch tow bar from a Subaru Forrester as they have brackets bolted to each end from factory, I made my own gusseted brackets to suit the Smarties frame and just removed the bumper reo to fit it, fitted perfect, even looks factory

Its because of the big L word. Build your own trailer and get it passed for a blue slip for rego, its been passed by an engineer. Its all about liability.

I don't know how true it is, but I have heard of people being pulled over by the transport cops and not being allowed to tow the trailer/ caravan, being because the towbar has no manufacturer compliance number or plate/sticker to show that it has been engineered for the purpose of towing?

And its a 2000kg Reese hitch on a 800kg car

You never know what I might need to use it for in the future and it all came with the tow bar

That might have been part of a suite of penalties laid on someone who failed the attitude test.

Generally I treat these hearsay rumours of risk as a bit like the story of Aeschylus. Killed when (allegedly) an eagle dropped a tortoise on his head. Or the fellow who “Dutch ovened” his missus with fatal results. How many risks do people want to dream up?

Yeah we had the early ones driving around Perth in the early 2000's with trailers, the trailers were straight pipe draw bar and axle with thin frame with a fibreglass advertising pod on top, the trailers were more than likely only a few hundred kg tops, used to see the trailers get blown over in strong wind.

Why is it that those who seem to consider themselves professionals tend to be the worst for breaking the rules? A friend is a "Driver trainer" yet has sooooo much crap suction-cupped to the windscreen in her prado that I'm surprised the cops havent booked her for it, and thats just the "kleva" smart play adapter thing for her stereo (which doesnt play CD's anymore because, well.... 15yo stock audio reasons), thehuge dashcam with its own 4" display, and the GPS....

Trying to explain to her that a new stereo would get all that crap off her windscreen and give her the option of a reversing camera? not on your life!

Lets skip that at generally any time after 2pm you can guarantee that she's had a couple of drinks, one episode recently resulting in an accident because she didnt see a landcruiser ute!

Also, why is it that the older people get, the more likely they are to have bought several items of "as seen on TV" garbage?

Don't argue with them though, you'll be labelled a dinosaur, or a technophobe or will be told to get with the times
