I always find it amusing when an ISP has an ADSL plan that stipulates 'Unlimited Hours'.

It is a bit like advertising a car with "Unlimited Driving Time/50,000KM". Really, it's ADSL broadband, which, in most cases is on all the time anyway (yes, you can disconnect/reconnect at will, without incurring connection charges).

Just makes the plan sound more attractive to unsuspecting users.

we had to do 2 line changes (cost $100)...report faults...nothing was working.
now it all works....what the odds of that coincidence?
Haha, you can blame it on telstra if you had just signed up and were waiting to be connected... just be glad that your days of slooooow dial up crap are now finally over.

ADSL 256/128 Telstra Bigpond unlimited ($60pm)

I used to managed 1.5->3gb on dialup which is now 10gb+ on ADSL. I'll move from Telstra when my 12mths contracts up on Nov 2005. $60 for 256/128 is way over priced but I do get my $ worth.

On dialup I used to spend over 300hours a month on the net. Can anyone say net junkie?!

look at all those url quotes, lol.
most isdn prividers these days have a 128kbps connection (half the speed of standard broadband)it uses two of the isdn 64kbps channels, one is usually for the voice phone line. when you have 128k, when you use the phone it drops back to 64k

Currently with TPG on dial up (31.2 kpbs) unlimited at $16.99 per month paid 3 monthly in advance.

BUT...I live in a housing Estate that is about 6 years old and under 2 k's from the nearest exchange and as someone else said we have a "rim". Wouldn't have a clue what a "rim" is but whatever it is , it stops us from getting broadband despite my mate less than 2 k's away having it.

I have been on Teltras back for over 12 months about this and have had no joy. The other day I thought I would try Telstra again to see if anything had changed ( ie new technology)...no was the reply. Was about to hang up when the guy at Telstra asked if I heard about Hibis..this is a Government funded project that allows people who can't get Broadband for whatever reason to have Satelite broadband at a heavily subsidised price. Its not promoted very well but it is hidden away on their website.

You need a dish on the roof which normally cost over $1,200 but if you qualify for Hibis it cost only $129- once up. The monthly charge for the service is then $89 for 512/256 which may seem expensive however it includes line rental of $29 which I already pay for my home phone so therfore the real cost comes down to $59. There are also no dial up charges which cost me say $12- per month. Plus because it takes my products with Telstra up to 3 I get 125 free SMS call per month between me and my wife ( which we would easily do) ..this saves another $30.

So at the end of the day it is basically what I'm paying for dial up...and its a 12 month contract and you get an extra line so the wife wont be screaming at me to get off the net.

I know there is only limited places left so if you are interested I suggest you look at it immediatley.

I was told I will be up and running in 3 weeks.

Cheers

Brad

Yeah it isnt too bad. im with clearnetworks (http://www.clearnetworks.com.au) on 256k down and 64k up. Its something like $80/month for 5gb of data... you get shaped once you exceed your download limit. The speed is good, beats the hell out of 26k dialup but the ping times are crap, i average 2.5sec ping to google.

I'm on the bodgy BigPoo 256/64 ADSL with 200mb limit. If only telstra would honour their promise that playing socom on PS2 would be true. I continue to pay for this broken promise but their days are numbered. The ombudsman has come into this little storm to sort a few telstra promise breakers out.

neb, can you tell me more of this plan you're on? Have checked TPG's website and the nearest plan to that is ADSL 512/128 unlimited $79.95 per month. Can't find 512/256 unlimited $80.00 per 3 months? Sounds good.

Telstra BigPond 512/128 ADSL Unlimited
$89.95/month

Definitley worth it. Its decently fast, rarely ever goes below 50kb/s downloading, and I get the same ping in Day of Defeat as my friend with 2MB cable.. so that's good.

Also have a $24.95/month Dialup Unlimited account with Digi Plus... at least I think someone is still paying for it.
