Hello, hope someone is able to help. I don't mind getting my hands dirty every now and again and have fixed and rebuild a few Falcons in my time, but have never seen as much cabling and as much plastic as under the bonnet of our '95 Mondeo. Can't figure out what's wrong with it. It's fine when it's cold but when it warms up it stalls. It's auto and would stall at the lights when brake is pressed for say 20 seconds. Never stalls straight away, always waits some time before the revs start going up and down until it stalls. You have to release the brake for it to move a bit and not to stall. It also stalls in Park when engine is warm. I have changed the transmission fluid but it has made no difference. Has anyone had this issue and resolved it? Also how do you adjust the idle engine speed. The manual advises 710 rpm in idle but our car does 500 rpm and I can't find a way to adjust it.

The revs are higher (choke) when cold, hence why it doesn't stall. Soon as the choke is off, revs drop (too low by the sounds) and it stalls. These are EFI yeah? So there is no choke & idle adjust like on a carby.
I'd clean the MAF sensor (can buy the cleaner at the local auto store), and check the vac lines to brake booster for a leak. Or the actual booster for a split in the diaphram. My old 302 XE falcon did exactly the same, was the brake booster. |
