Hey people, just sitting here watching the footy having a few glases of wine and it got me thinking, I know theres a few wine drinkers in here from previous threads so what wines do people here rate as the best. At the moment im drinking a 2001 wynns cab shiraz merlot and its bloody good. but my top red is
Brands of coonawarra 98 merlot, i scored mine for free from working there but if you can find one now they go for about $150. Im not much of a white lover but for a white pick i dont mind the Mount pleasent Elisibeth semillon. ] Whats everyone elses picks. |

Ahh, by accident stumbled across a 2002 pinot noir from Kyneton ridge estate. FANTASTIC.
Over christmas ventured over to the barossa for 6 days. What an awesome experience! The missus old man has an owners priverlige card for the Novatel Barossa so it was the ducks guts for the whole time we where there. Possibly the best attraction was Saltram wines. Mmm good yet so expensive. Also Jacobs creek was a very interestin winery and cheep too.

Brown Brothers Dolchetto
It's a red you drink cold! Very nice. Seasonal wine. Highly recommended

My old boss makes a good drop, exports it to asia, the US, and some parts of Europe, along with the local market. Red's are the best but has most of the range

I didn't mind the Mitchelton Estate Viognier, for a white wine, that was young... quite a nice drop.
All time favourite a 1979 Balgowine Estate Shiraz... absolutely gorgeous!!! By the way I have another 10 hours (yes 10) to go on my wine appreciation subject at uni... gee i love school!!! ![]()

OK I've several wines I prefer..with reds I like good merlots Sirromet is good..with whites a good chardonay(yea I'm left of centre).
However at this time I am aging 3 bottles of Golden Grape estate shiraz 2002 will be ready to drink in about 12mths,from the hunter valley. The second one which is ready now is Castelmere 2004 Vin De Pays De L'AUDE..a very soft red that goes with just about anything...bottled in France. To those that like their reds ..try this chill your red for about 2to4 hours in the fridge then about half an hour before drinking decant the bottle into a jug/caraffe...to see the difference on decanting take a sip when chilled and then see the difference when aired for no more than half an hour while it still retains some coolness.

I like a good Hunter or Barossa Shiraz, which has been on Oak, and then in my cellar for a year or more. I am drinking my way through a 2002 Tyrrells McLaren Vale (Lost Block) Cab Sav at the moment, however, I need to restock my Cellar.
The Wife has discovered Red Shiraz, however I can't take to that, because it is served chilled, and also because it is as dry as a white. John, I do your method in Summer, however in Winter, there is nothing like drinking a good red straight from the Decanter, but not through the Fridge. Just make sure its not McGuigans Red/Black label - I can't stand that.

My favorite subject - wine....
Chateau Tahbilk make some great coonawarra reds at great prices....check em out on the web. They market heavily through their wine club and it a multi million dollar operation. Opened a 1998 Penfolds 407 Cab Sav yesterday over a lamb roast lunch with Mrs Ringo and the Father-out-law.....I prepped the lamb with a little garlic and rosemary and roasted the vegies with a hint of morrocan style spices....oh my god it was good. I still have a few bottles of 1998 penfolds 389 cab shiraz but for everyday quaffing I I go Yalumba 2L Cab Merlot casks for about $13-15 and Chenin Blanc for Mrs Ringo Mrs Ringo & I and I am also heavily into Sauv Blanc, preferably NZ Sauv Blanc. We got into then 2 years ago when they were around the $10.00 per bottle for a Montana. Try finding one for less than $15.00 now! All NZ sauv blancs have shot up in price 50% at least. There has been a definate shift in the market and Chardonnay prices are dropping. Which wine course are you doing Melz ? |
