Angry Grr Fkin Grr

out: Now, I'm not one to get to agro too often. Serious, Okay, sometimes I do. But now I am really ****ed off! For those that don't know me and the situations I've had with my car, you're in for a ride! Now, I went looking for a car 18 months ago. Found a nice EF GLi 4,200 he was asking, as is. I thought that sounded fair. I had recently switched mechanics and my new guy sounded the part, so i got him to look it over and he said it was great. He said the auto and the head have recently been done, so she is well worth the money. So, back to the car yard to hand over the cold hard.

A month later, she was runnin a little rough, so, down to my trusty mechanic, "Sorry buddy, you have a blown head gasket!". I thought this was odd, but got him to fix it anyway. $1300 and 2 weeks later I had my new headgasket on.

A month later, the auto was a little rough going into reverse, into the auto guy for a service "Mate, you need a new auto, $1800 for a reco should see you smilin" me - "how long ago was it reco'd last?" Auto bloke "Dunno, it has been reco'd, I'd say about 100,000 kays ago."

Do a bit of research, decide that for 1800, I could probably get a 5 speed in. Down to the mechanic, who I am not overly pleased with. Unfortunately, not knowing anyone else in town worth going to, I thought I'd still give him a shot. I asked him how much for a 5 speed swap, if I supplied the parts. He said no. I said, how much? He said "I'll find you a second hand auto" I said, but, I want a 5 speed, he said "I'll find you a second hand auto".

I was tellin a mate about this, and he told me his mechanic was tops, so, down to this different mechanic, he said it'd be 350-450. I then decided that the old mechanic was a retard. Went down to the auctions to find me a 5 speed EF, there was one, it went for twice the money I had on me, so, I bought an auto. Went to my new mechanic and asked him to fit the auto, which He did very well. I then went for a drive to Brissy and, on the way back, the engine seized. Turned out, the original mechanic didn’t replace the heater hose, despite the fact that I told him to replace every hose under the bonnet cause I didn’t want this to happen.

So, tow the car back to the burra, my mechanic informs me of the good news(this is the new mechanic by the way). I decided to get the engine fully rebuilt. So, in with all the good gear. Spent about 3,500 on it. The engine was running like a pearler. Have had a few other dramas here and there since, but not many.

Was loving the new engine and the new auto, but, it just wasn’t getting the power to the ground like I thought it should. So, in with the 5 speed. Did the swap myself and it went pretty smoothly. 2 months later, the box died. So, in with another 5 speed.

It was then about 6 months down the track that I noticed a bit of a ticking noise. In to the mechanic and he said I had noisy tappets so, in with a new set. Sounded a bit better, nothing fantastic. Started to settle down, I was happy, started to get worse, I was not so happy.

Back to the mechanic, he informs me that there were some dodge tappets getting around and that maybe try another set, still noisy, perhaps it was the 320,000k old rocker assembly, so, on with a rocker assembly that I had at home, not certain on the number of kays. Still noisy, a mate (my mechanic’s son) had a rocker assembly lieing around, so, we fitted that one night hoping that would fix the problem.

It was quiet for a week or so then it got worse suddenly. Just took it in there today, they pulled the tappet cover off to have a bit of a look see. Turns out, there is a small crack in one of the oil journals. I need a new block. So, $12,000 later and my EF is now for sale for 4,500. I have given up. I am sick of it. The car is great to drive, I love driving it, I’m just sick of spending money on it. Sorry to anyone who has read this and felt it a waste of their time, I am just feeling really bummed at the moment and just wanted to express some anger. :

Gawd mate, I know what that's like... shyte like this happens way too often :

I don't understand why it does, but it does. Sometimes a run of bad luck can last a while, and you gotta know when to surrender.

It's a shame you got a dud and then a dud mechanic etc. I have had the same run of bad luck with the EA (head blew, got a reco'd head put back on, timing chain wasn't put on right and two valves got bent. Got 2nd hand engine, then brakes started going, then trans bit the bullet, got another trans... got the brakes fixed, and now there's a heap of stuff to do and not much moulash left over, the list goes on - I FEEL YOUR PAIN!).

I know your next car won't have as many issues - small hint, go Toyota! bwahahahaha

I suggest buy a complete motor for $400 from a wrecker drop the damn thing in, have the car run quiet then sell it off asap, I know you will loose money, but you will get a much better price, and I dont think you can handle another thing breaking.

She's for sale as is. I am asking 4,500 in the vein attempt to recoop some of the losses. I am in no position financially to buy another car, so the money I get from this will have to buy me another one. Here's hopin.

Mate, reading that made me truly feel sick in my stomach. Makes me glad my mechanic is an old school friend of 10 years now...

Ouch! Thats the reason I didn't go to an e-series xr and just went straight to a base model au. I knew it wouldn't be as flash but less likely to have problems. Iv spent $0 so far except for 1 service. Only lost money on stuff iv broken or wasted money on and not turned out.

I don't think I could handle what you had to do considering that 12k would of got you a very nice car.

Man, just read your post. That ing sucks!!! Nothing worse than getting a dud car :jab:
Hope you have more luck on the next one. I recommend an RAA check. I think it's worth the money in the end as I just had a scare with a car I just bought but it turned out alright. I would've paid the money for the check to save that unnessary heartache though in hindsight.

Bit surprised that this got dug back up. But eh, what can you do? I'm now looking at moving on. Trying to make the tough decision between saving a few hundy and buying a dunga or borrowing even more money and buying something that SHOULD be nice and reliable.

It appears to me that your first new mechanic did it deliberately, to get more work, he probably knew it was a lemon. Id hate to think that was actually the case but thats the way it seems.

Good luck in selling it mate.

Looks that way to me too. As for good luck selling it, I think I'll need it. Being honest doesnt always pay. I can put some thick oil in it and you can't really notice, but i dont wanna do that. I'd hate it if someone did it to me!

I hope your luck turns around mate, it's not nice to see such dishonest people around that rely on a level of trust from customers. One day, that mechanic will get done by someone else, and he'll know your pain
