Freighting motorbike from Perth - Melb

Just wondering if anyone has freighted a motorbike from the West and got any tips on who you used and how much? Depending on cost, I either need depot to depot Perth - Melb and I'll have it picked up in Melbourne, or depot to depot Perth - Adelaide and I've got transport contacts who run Melb - Adelaide who can get it the rest of the way for me.

Just my dirt bike, I've welded up a skid that it'll strap down onto that takes up about 1.5 pallet spaces and can be forked on and off.

I'm not using my bike over here so I'm going to freight it back to Vic and just ride when I'm over there.

If anyone's done it before or has any connections, some advice would be appreciated before I pick up the phone and start chasing.

Cheers

Schmidty

Thanks for that. Just submitted details for a quote and will see what they come back with and compare.

That mob came back at $725 Perth depot to Melbourne depot, or $975 door to door. And 14 - 18 days in transit. Probably a great service for a flash road bike.
Will see if someone will throw it on as general freight first I think.

I'll come over and trailer it back for that price...lol

Try Watsons Express or Perth Freight Lines.

Fook me!!! You have people coming back with full loads for not much more than that and 14 to 18 days in transit, bloody hell. You could walk back to Melbourne faster. Ring a few local transport companies and try your luck. If it’s only a dirt bike and you’ve gone to the trouble of making a proper stand, it shouldn’t be much of a drama for any transport company. Even ring those scumbags at SCT. They have trains running every two days.

Might be worth invetsigating the motorail option http://www.holidaysallover.com/train.../motorail.html
It seems it will need to be put in a trailer but $349 Perth to Adelaide seems reasonable. And you might be able to use the trailer to pack a few other things in you want sent home.

Yeah I'm in the wrong business with people charging rates like that!
Was trying not to give any more money to Toll, SCT, Silk/Bunkers, might get the phone book out tomorrow and have a dig.

Just had a read up and the trailer has to be attached to a car, accompanied by a passenger and classed as a separate vehicle so you pay $349 x 2 plus a ticket. Even if a trailer could be sent on it's own it turns into a mission to get it picked up in Adelaide. Would take up half an A trailer at least.

Other option that's looking good is selling it and just buying another one in Victoria.

Mate, I have done this before by going to a local dealer and getting a box that the bikes come from the manufacturer. Then just freighting that box with a normal freight carrier to a bike dealer in perth. Make contact with them first, but you will find most will do it for you.

Got a few quotes this morning.

All Australian logistics, who I've never heard of? $226 to Adelaide.
Watsons Express - $450 to Adelaide, $550 to Melbourne.
Perth Freightlines $360 pick up from me, deliver to my designated drop off point in Greenfields SA and I've got it on a truck for nothing from there to where I want the bike in Geelong.
And who I'll probably use - Mainfreight - $262 with the same pick up and delivery as the above. That's worked as a 2300mm long skid, 1000mm wide and 1300mm high at 200kg to travel 2800km. Pretty bloody cheap. The last 800km for free is a bonus too!

For $#!^s and giggles, Australian air express $7789!

$245 + GST to Adl
$335 + GST to Mel
