Despite talking to my daughter about her work experience this week and any impacts the public holiday here would have on her, I've just realised that, with my Special Day Off on Monday (we don't just have a run-of-the-mill RDO here :lol), I have a 4 day weekend :dance

Finding a strut top bushing listed in a dealer’s closeout lines, marked down.
Clicking to buy it, then discovering there’s a further 20% off “flash sale”.
Being quoted a sensible price on postage.
Going through checkout and watching the VAT be removed.

Good start to Friday, not a huge overall saving but definitely will be under trade price here. And it will probably arrive ex-UK before the Sparesbox order I placed on September 3rd. :yelrotflm

Spanish makerals put up a good fight. Ive landed a couple of smaller ones, and by couple i mean 2, off the south coast of nsw in my own small boat. So one was maybe 40cm, the other was maybe 60cm. And that was on light gear. I dont own heavy gear. On a charter boat in darwin I reeled in a what i think was a red emperor, it wasnt a big unit. The charter boat staff took that, swapped my rod out for something more towards game fishing overhead rod, and that fish was now live bate. So after 2 or so minutes with the live bait, that turned into a 40 minute battle of screaming drag and then not giving it slack. Landed a 1.5m spanish mackerel. Now the charter company had the option to catch and keep. I personally do not eat seafood so i opted for release. Fishing is relaxing, catching can be more of a sport.

Re: What made you feel good today?

Hi Guy's
Like most people on this site we all love our car's. I like everything to work on my Mondeo and get upset when somethings don't work.
Last week they were doing road works near home and the road wasn't in great shape and i hit a few bumps on the road.

The next day i went to the Shopping Centre and on the way back my ABS Light/ Traction Control light came on ad didn't go off.
I read that sometimes hitting a rough road a wire in the ABS System can come Loose.

I took my car to the mechanic and left it with him. Two hours later he phoned and said " you car's ready".
My wife drove me to pick it up and it was a wire that had come loose. Then he said to me " don't worry about paying anything it only took me 3 seconds to fix".

Quick release butt of a Speedbor snapped off below flush in an extension holder. The extension uses a magnet plus captive balls, so I couldn’t shake the leftover piece out. Cranked up my soldering station with the largest, hottest tip fitted and soldered on a length of old single strand mains wire from the scrap copper pile. Bingo, out came the broken end. :party2

Re: What made you feel good today?

Finally the replacement chinesium axles for my rc car arrived today. Took about 6 or 7 weeks. To be fair i cant really be annoyed at the seller, or Australian customs. They were in customs for 3 weeks and can kind of understand why as the packaging did look a bit sus.
Ive got changing axles on the rc car down to a point where whilst fiddly due to really small screws etc, i can do it pretty quick with no stuff ups, lost screws or creating new swear words. So that was the 5th axle id broken. The 1st 4 were stock nylon ones, this one was chinesium steel. Gave it a test rip, still as quick as before.

Re: What made you feel good today?

So after i replaced the busted axle on my rc car and gave it a little test rip on a deadish battery. It clocked 63kmh.
Gave it a proper rip today on a fresh 4s 6500mah lipo. It gears out at 79, and 79 it did. However, that didnt last long. The front axle i changed was apples, the other front axle i didnt change as it was fine, decided otherwise. Same failure point. But axles come in pairs, so i had a spare. The chinesium axles have lasted a lot longer then the stock plastic ones, so its not a quality control issue. Its more a whats the point of not beating the crap out of equipment if its in the name of fun?
So ive broken 2 stock rear axles, 2 stock front axles, and 2 aftermarket steel front axles. The uneducated engineer in me would like to blame that on differentials. So the thing is 4x4. Has a front and rear diff, both open centre so send power to the path of least resistance. The motor is connected to the centre diff, again, its open, so sends power front or rear bias towards the path of least resistance. So irection because the thing lives most its life with the front wheels in the air, the front wheels get more wheel speed via the centre diff and when they come back down to a tractive surface shocks the driveline and sends me back to ebay to buy new axles.
So with ordering spare axles (i ordered 6 as i dont plan to change as its fun and otherwise been bulletproof) i also ordered the wide suspension arm kit. Apparently that makes it handle better because it makes the track 40mm wider. I reckon it hanldes pretty good as is when your axles are not busted, but i shall find out eventually as we all know international post takes its sweet *** time at the moment.

Nah, no need. The car had only done 2500km since they last inspected it so they just gave it a quick check of tyres and lights.

First “virtual tourism” photo came through, a wombat that maxed out the cute-ometer (quokka level endearing). :D

Plus, first stage strip out and trim done on my current job. Lots of newspaper and mortar stuffed craters in the wall from other people having a crack at leaky pipes, burrowing in from the other side. Dusty as, now!

Little things that make your day........
The apple danish I bought for lunch yesterday wasn't so crispy and flaky as beechworth Bakeries usual standards.
This morning I mentioned it in passing while ordering todays lunch treat
(an Apple turnover) the woman serving thanked me for telling her.
She then takes the Danish price and the Turnover price of my order. I said I just mentioned it cause I thought they might want to know and didn't want money off as I did eat it.
She said no we appreciate your input. Embarassed, I put the difference in Yackandandah's fire brigade bucket on the counter.

Re: What made you feel good today?

So rego ,tick, my car wasnt dirty just dusty. I never take it for a rego inspection squeeky clean with an engine bay stinking of degreaser. The mechanics i trust are brutally honest but in the same sense very good at what they do. So they passed the steed as i was pretty sure it was apples, they had the same opinion. If i thought the car had an issue id take it to the place down the road, drop two $50's on the counter and say do the same with the brake tester.
Anyhow, dusty but not dirty, spider webs. Around the boot and both mirrors. Not so much an issue exept the one on my drivers side mirror was a bit more wooley. Last time i saw a web like that was in my boat and it was an angry redback. So i gave the car a present, a run throught the contactless carwash. Hopefully the spiders decide its a **** place to live. I also filled the tank. It had a bit over half, but its been 6 or 9 weeks since i last filled it.

It's only a 35 tonner CB, the block must be quite small, to make the machine look so big, but it moves dirt quickly!

Most domestic work here uses 5-7 tonners, with a baby digger to do the detail.

This thing has a large bucket, 1200? and the dirt is flying into the tippers. They’re down to grey-white plastic clay, which can go for metres - suspect piering is next.

The bucket is 1.4 cm, I repaired the walking gear on an older 35 tonner my el cheapo Maltese boss bought, I was in a paddock, it would not fit in the shed, the rear drive sprockets were smooth, lol, but it had good hydraulic pump, that's the main expense on them, it was a nightmare of a job, watching for snakes and working, fires too, it was just outside of Penrith!
But a good operator makes the cost to hire worthwhile!
