Wow....I wonder though if it would have been that bad if the car did not have a sunroof. I imagine that the roof would have held up better.

I always check my wheel nuts after service.
Both my rears were loose after a service. Didn't find out for 3 days later when I heard a scrapping noise at low speed.
In the mean time I had to rush my wife to hospital in an emergency so had the nuts come off we would have both ended up in hospital or the morgue.

Just can't trust the mechanics to tighten and torque those nuts. (no offense to the guys that do the right thing)

I drove my car out of my driveway and it felt like the engine was going to fall out stopped it all the wheel nuts loose on the left front but the stud with the locknut had snapped off as I went down the driveway . Someone had tried to steal my wheel lucky the stud snapped off in the driveway and not the motorway or else someone could end up dead

That was the first thing that came to my mind, imagine if it was right hand drive or he had a passenger.

Remember Lowndes at Bathurst the other year when the tyre landed on his Falcon that was a scary moment just watching, i couldnt imagine what this poor guy was thinking.

I seen a 9" when it was being transferred from 1 Falcon to another and when the 31 spline Moser Billet Axels come out to my amazement the wheel studs instead of being new bigger ones to match the billet axels the standard studs had been kept and had been modified by welding & grinding to make them fit. The Falcon was running 11.5 @ 120mph with these home made studs and the price of a set of new studs compared to the money spent on the whole diff, its was probably only a matter of time before they let go.

I totally agree. I do NOW, ever since I had a wheel fall off after having a wheel alignment done. My wheel just gently crossed the road, and ended up on the grass beside the road, and the EA hardly copped any damage either, so it was fairly lucky.

I can't believe how destroyed that BMW is though! That bloke was very lucky to walk away from that!

we get little sticker on windscreen to check before you leave premises ,ok for me but my missus couldnt tighten or check em right so its pot luck they do the right thing i guess. and that would scare c r a p outta ya wouldnt it .

Can't trust most mechanics to do anything really...

I check my wheel nuts every so often but how many 'average' motorists bother to keep an eye on their wheel bearings?

most of them dont keep an eye on anything at all, let alone something like bearings...

And I read all 18 pages in that thread lol. For anyone that couldn't be bothered, hes fine, scratched up arm, no shoulder breakages, car will be sold for parts and hes discussing some sort of compensation with his lawyer, probably in the form of sueing the company, btw those are the single bolt wheels, much like V8 super cars.
