I use firefox all the time, unless the website is shit and is built for IE or I'm going to Windows Update. Dont think you can delete it, its Windows pride and joy.

This is true. It depends very much on what Windows version your runing though.

Technically it is possible to not have IE, period, if you have Windows 98, a copy of 95 and a copy of 98lite. That program can fuse together some files from Windows 95 into 98 and make it so that you don't have IE at all.

Unfortunately, every other version of windows above that has Internet Explorer built into the operating system - its not just a program, its part of the shell.

Therefore, updating IE or downloading XP service pack two will give you an ad blocking feature - or as MADXF said, just download Firefox. Its better anyway ;)

Well in that case, download spybot or adaware and scan your computer.

You have spyware installed.

try using a program called IERADICATOR. I don't recommend uninstalling it no matter how much i hate it. There are some programs that use it.

It's only just happened, no doubt something my ******** brother has put on or looked up.

A rather abusive phone call (and futile, eh what can you do) to that company that brings us that retarded frog has made me feel somewhat better.

You don't need to use all of those other programs to stop the spyware etc.....you can use Internet Explorer itself.

Just put those annoying websites in the 'blocked' area.

That's the primary form of 'Spam Control' I use.

No probs here with Firefox unless the site is only written for IE which isn't very often.

Tyr the Microsoft one, I know everybody gets on here and recommends about 1000 different programs (most of which ive tried) but in all honesty the Microsoft one is the best and most thorough one ive used. It adds in protection points to stop the crap from coming back too (and to stop new stuff).

It's called Microsoft AntiSpyware and is available for free from their website.

And it is possible to delete Internet Explorer from Windows, just find it in the Programs files and delete the one called 'IE' or similar. You'll know it when you find it.

Ive got Spybot, Adaware, Spyware blaster and Norton. With Spybot enable Spybot Resident and tea timer. Dissable system restore (I never have this enabled) when deleting spyware. Open task manager and note any suspcious processes. Research them on the net and if they are not good kill it. I had the twain tech thing always reappearing. I killed some processes in Spybot and also unregistered the .dll files. Delete any files installed as a result of the spyware. If you have broadband, use a router with a NAT firewall in it. Ive never had any problems with spyware since switching to ADSL.

Well system restore saves your settings so if something screws up you can revert back to the old settings. Problem with this is that is also saves spyware and viruses which will just reinfect anything.

They try and pass it off as theirs though
'download the world famous frog remix' or some crap. Have you got fox8? Always get blasted by this mobile phone crap at least once every ad break. Funny, cos i always thought the point of 'pay tv' was you paid for the service therefore they didnt need to look to ads to get money. There's an annoying 'Puffy the Dragon' thing now, which adds to the mentality that for some reason having an animated 3d character instantly makes your business 'cool'. A bit off-topic, but that Jamster ad is also at the top of my most hated things on tv list, and if anybody on this forum ever comes up with a plot to destroy Jamster, count me in.
With our old computer however, you used to get constant popups from the moment it detected a connection. I don't really remember how I fixed that, but the computer is sitting in the garage at the moment, dismantled (seriously, I took a screwdriver to it), so that might have had something to do with it.
