The Blue Oval is set to unveil a plug-in version of its popular Focus samll car ahead of the Detroit motor show.
Ford has released the first images of its plug-in electric Focus small car which is due to be officially unveiled tomorrow at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Ford CEO Alan Mulally is expected to use the reveal to discuss the brand's plug-in plans for the next five years, with the Focus expected to be the first of a number of electric vehicles offered by the manufacturer. The covers will come off just days before the premier automotive event in the US, the Detroit motor show, with the obvious aim of gaining more attention (not to mention avoid having it missed amid a predicted flood of unveilings at the show). While the teaser images don't give away too much - showing a charging point with a status light that illuminates as the car is charging from the powerpoint - the Focus EV is expected to look slightly different to the next-generation Focus (pictured above). The Focus EV is expected to offer an (initially) limited number of buyers a range of around 150 kilometres from its lithium-polymer LG Chem batteries - the same company that supplies the batteries used in the Chevrolet Volt. The unveiling of the new Focus EV comes less than a year after the brand announced it was looking into a plug-in version of the small car.

a plug in ev would be awesome for a work car, i only drive like 7kms max a day to get to and from work, a full charge would last me a couple of weeks
