Default 62MM of rain & more to come. how long can you tread water

: Much needed rain has come out west and what a weekend for camping "not" :
If the run off into the dams is good we should see a saving grace for summer , now we have flash flooding everwhere? !go figure!
Any where else record good rain...........

ACT has had a good down pour over the last few days and a bit of rain before that. We were in drought for the past 2 or 3 years. We went as high as Stage 3 water restrictions. Goulburn was worst with Stage 5 and less than 10% water in their dams. ACT is now officially out of drought and our dams have improved from Below 50% to around 63%. Water restrictions will end as of tommorrow.

Forecast is for rain till at least Wednesday

I went to the weather channel's web site and it says Sydney, which I think it means Warragamba is at 39.10%. Maybe its all the dams for Sydney, sydney. Not sure.

Maybe Sydney Water's web site will have more information. Might go check it out.

:

Here are the figures from Sydney water

Available Water Storage as at 27-October-2005

Cataract 41.2%
Cordeaux 55.0%
Avon 50.7%
Nepean 20.7%
Woronora 40.0%
Warragamba 36.5%
Prospect 44.0%
Wingecarribee 66.4%
Fitzroy Falls 66.0%
Tallowa 46.0%
Blue Mountains 89.2%

Total 38.8%

No the 38% is including the recent rainfall, will still be some runoff to come. Crisis is here and Macquarie St is still eating cake and denying the problem. The even congratulated themselves for the cleanest beaches in years, funny that with storm-water runoff at a similar coincidental low.

But with Carr now working a plumb $10k a day job for the owners of the Toll Roads with the watertight contracts he'll be able to water his lawn with bottled water, screw the rest of us..

Red shakes his head at the true believers.

What I don't understand is that Katoomba dam is so very full (as stated by Bucknaked, at 89.2%) yet we still have water restrictions up here. Apparently they changed us from Katoomba dam to Warragamba many years ago. Some of the locals up here don't believe this, and say that we're being duped by Sydney Water to be on water restrictions when we don't need to be.

Also a few years ago now they apparently moved the Warragamba dam wall to increase the storage size... so when they say it's at 40% now it's actually the old equivalent of 60%. That's just what I heard, not sure whether it is true or not.

Warragamba is in the wrong spot too, it just doesn't rain there! And all our storm water seems to just go out to sea, wtf is that about?

just kidding.

The details on the SCA website is from the previous week ... they upload details weekly ... then add the run-off later on as well.

As much as we have had ... we still need about 4 weeks or more of solid rain EVERY day.

And I need to hook up my new water tank as well ... LOL
Cos of the rain I haven't been able to do the cement slab for the water tank yet ... grrrr

Had 2 1/2 inches here in about an hour a week ago...unfortunately it did'nt hit the catchment. So our dams are still way down and stage 3 restrictions are looming.

Default Sh#tty Water for Sydney

SH#TTY WATER FOR SYDNEY Was watching the weather channel the other night (oh my god, whats my life become). Anyway, there was a documetary on about water and the future of the catchments in this country. Do you Sydney siders realize that alot of water including drinking water, going into Sydney is from grey and Brown water (yes P#ss and S#it) from Goulburn. I was shocked as the shows presenter was saying that although most people are not aware of this, its actually happening. Other states will be forced to follow suit as this is a cheap way to recycle. Sorry to be the bearer of Sh#tty news guys.

Tertiary water purification produces water that is better to drink than what comes out of the tap now...it is unfortunately the way of the future...if we're not real careful we shall all be wearing rehydration suits as depicted in DUNE.
