Default Hi guys, I need to talk to someone who REALLY KNOWS what they are doing in advertisin

Hi guys, I need to talk to someone who REALLY KNOWS what they are doing in advertising. I have an idea for selling advertising space/rights and I need to talk to someone who knows how to go about it.

I need to know a few things like:
What type of clients I could get?
Where and how do I find them?
How to market myself and the idea.
Where to advertise to get a client?
How much they would pay for it or how much I could ask.

I know this is a pretty brief description on what I am after but I don't want to post the idea on here obviously.

If anyone can help please reply here, email or pm my please.

Thanks.

Where and how do I find them?
By advertising in your advertising space
Where to advertise to get a client?
As above

The ones that like the idea and can see some benifit / return from it.

Mostly done on a circulation / or ratings system, thats why TV ratings are important, the higher the rating the dearer the advertising. Or position Prime position Idea Prime $.

If what you have is a really good idea then protecting the idea is probably your first step is with a copy write / patents layer or similar is best.

Hope it works out for you.

The idea i have is not really that new (it has been done before but not that much and there is definitely more room for this idea) and I want to put a different twist on it. I don't think I could copyright it. I want to sell space somewhere and I am sure there must be an agency or someone I could speak to who has been there done that before and has a client base etc...

I mean if you want to sell your house you don't just put a sign out the front. You have RE agents.

If you want a new job you have recruitment agencies not just the classifieds. They have employers on file and know what positions are worth etc...

Say I had a business and want to advertise (not in the media) who would I call?

Is it more for clients of a local area or potentially citywide, statewide, nationally wide.

Ive based the responces of the latter

What type of clients I could get?
Depends on what your advertising on. For example, Maccas expresso pronto will advertise great on breakfast radio shows.
Where and how do I find them?
Don't let them come to you. The only medium I know of that does not rely on their sales team chasing clients is commercial TV.
If you read the newspaper, read all of it. If you come across a new product being launched, which would suit the medium perfectly, then chase down the company and ask who their media agency is. Try not to rely on emails for communications, a powerpoint emailed to them does not leave the good impression that scheduling a meeting, meeting the person, the product being explained to them, chance for questions, and having the leave behind for further reference.

How to market myself and the idea.
Where to advertise to get a client?
It depends on the media is again. If getting clients involve chasing them then I wouldn't bother too much about advertising. Marketing though should be essential to the client you are proposing to. Small things like leave behind media kits (overview of the product and default sample of amount of $ vs reach/frequency), samples of different styles that can be individualised, business cards etc. Even around times where gifts are given, get them something that is unique to your product, useful and sits on their desk.

How much they would pay for it or how much I could ask.
Depends on how many people it reaches and the amount of times it reaches them. Generally a person of the public would have to experience the ad for the product 3 times for it to have effect on them.

Another way that could help being the rate higher is if its targeted. For example, if your advertising space your were selling was on the side of cement trucks, and you chased Bunnings as a client, that is very targeted and could cause the rate to rise (although it would be a very poor medium to have advertising on, you'd have sweet fa reach as you'd only have the same 5 people looking at all day)

When I did a "Managers training course" years ago , Not your Macca's type but a large department store type which covered 25 subjects , the instructor said " two types of adverts count , really good ones eg. the "Bugger" ad or Carlton ads , or really bad ones eg. the "tongue" or "APIA" ads . All the "nice ads" viewers couldn't tell you what it was 5 minutes after . Good & bad ones stick in the customers minds .
