Unhappy Help the puppies...

"After 10 yrs, Animal Liberation of Victoria and all helpers have finally won the battle and the Puppy Farm in Ballarat is finally being closed down by the Ballarat City Council.

We need all the help we can get as there are 300-350 poor dogs that need homes or foster homes. A lot of pure bred dogs. But if you or anyone you know can help one of these dogs we are desperately looking for homes.

Please see this link for details.

http://www.alv.org.au/storyarchive/0...ners/index.asp

Just remember these poor dogs have been through a lot and some have never had the companionship or love that they deserve, so need quite a bit of help."

I received this in an email, and as a huge lover of all animals, I really found it disturbing! To think that someone can get away with treating any animal like this is heartbreaking.

I have emailed Debra from ALV asking what help I can provide. They are asking for any help, bedding, donations, foster homes etc. So i thought this is a perfect opportunity to enlighten people who may not be aware of the problem at all, and to try and get some help for these people (ALV) who work so hard just to provide the love and care that these animals deserve!

So come on people, please, please, please do anything you can, wether it be sending some old blankets or a couple of dollars or even fostering a pup, every little bit helps!

Thanks guys,

-Leah.

Poor puppys!

How can anybody treat an animal like that and still be able to sleep at night?!?

can you actually purchase one of these dogs to keep or are they only on a foster home basis?
what sort of prices are they looking at for the dogs?
(obviously breed matters in pricing?)
if its a cheap (or free), quick and easy process, i *might* be interested in taking a trip to The Rat to pick up a nice puppy for the missus (to keep naturally).

Just email Debra Tranter debra@alv.org.au with your details and she will add you to the database. At the moment they are taking names and details, adding them to the database and she will contact you.

They don't have the dogs as yet.

Email from Debra:

"Thanks Leah,

I am currently still negotiating with the owner a legal surrender of the remaining
200 dogs left on the property.

We are in a position to rehome and desex every dog. I have another person
co-ordinating the fostering/rehoming of all the dogs so I can concentrate on the
negotiations.

If you send me contact details of all interested parties I will ensure their names
are on the data base and they will be contacted when/if the dogs are legally mine.

I am morally opposed to paying for any animal as if they are a commodity but I have
to face the facts that the dogs will require vet work, desexing etc so it was
decided to charge a flat rate to cover costs.

As you can imagine I may be the "owner" of 200 dogs shortly and the logistics of
this kind of rescue is a nightmare. We are working around the clock preparing a
"ground zero" base, vets, food, bedding, etc etc.

Thanks for your support and please forward any contact details of potential foster
carers or permanent homes.

Debra"

Well i have put caspers and my name down to foster one of the dogs. Atleast when it is ready for its new home it will be well and truly spoilt rotten and well socialized with children. Its disgusting that the owner got away with it for so long.

Fantastic, thanks guys! I couldnt believe when i read it how someone could do anything like that just to make money! I mean theyre defenceless little puppies. Makes me sick, but im so glad that people are offering to foster puppies or help out. The more help for the ALV the better.

I'm actually looking for a small(ish) dog/pup. This might be the perfect answer if they have any young Beagle/Staffie/etc types.

On the actual ALV site one of the bitches they were breeding from was a beagle so thers a good chance. Im sure if you email Debra (debra@alv.org.au) and get your name put on the list, you will find out when the puppies are available.

i just read the article and that is the most disgusting thing i have ever seen. i cannot believe that someone can be that cruel. take the dogs off him, and then take him out and shoot him. did i read in there that he was a 'Dr'? surely he could not be a vet. if i wasin Vic, i would be putting my hand up. well done to the people who fought so hard to free these poor dogs.

Im with you there RSgerry. I was truly sickened when I read it, hense making the thread. I thought if I could get any of those poor puppies re-homed it would help, and even just getting the word out there is a start.

And yes he is a Dr. Also a liberal politician. Makes me even angrier that he got away with it for that long being someone out and about in the public eye. GRRR!

I would certainly be putting my hand up if I was in a position to be able to, sadly we just had to give away our dog after moving to a much smaller house...

Dear Friends,

Unfortunately, this email contains bad news. The rescue of dogs and puppies
from the Puppy Farm will not be going ahead. Despite all the efforts of ALV
and many other volunteers and carers the owner will not release the dogs
into rescue. Thank you for all your offers of help in whatever way (and
apologies if my database incudes your email more than once!).

For all those who were interested in adopting can I suggest that you
continue to look for the right dog for you through the rescue organisation
you choose to support. Apart from our own organisation
(http://www.victoriancaninerescue.net) I can also recommend
http://www.saveadog.org.au http://wwww.lortsmith.com http://www.aaps.org.au
and http://www.vaat.org.au/ (This is not an exhaustive list and there are
many, many other rescue groups who deserve your support.

To potential foster carers, a big thank you for your generous offer.

Best wishes to all of you and if you would like ALV to continue their
efforts to protect animals you might consider supporting them at

I just read through some of that link Leah, and looked at some of the pictures, I had tears welling my eyes reading and seeing that. How can those dogs not be released after the atrocious conditions they have to put up with.
This is one cause an AFF Lynch/Hit Squad should be set up to deal with.

Unfortunately, it appears the law is on the side of...the vet who owns the puppy farm I believe...however this does'nt stop VCR going in and releasing all the dogs ...to be picked up in their escape and saving them from such a brutal and horrible life.

In conclusion I have only one thing to say...the more I know ppl the more I love my dogs. to those that can and want to get this a***hole and screw him/her over one way or the other.

DO IT NO MATTER WHAT.!!!!!!

FFS...what is worng with people? why the hell wont they release the dogs? what right has the ***** got to keep these animals in these conditions? i bet it has got a lot to do with his political connections. i sincerely hope this @rsewipe gets what he deserves. the problem with karma is that it takes a while to come around and it sometimes misses. john mcmaster said it best. release the dogs and then pick them up.

Just for the record, and not condoning anything that is seen on the referred website, you need to put some perspective on what these animal liberation groups' agenda is.

In their material they refer to the owner of the Puppy farm as Dr Wells, and state he is a Liberal parliamentarian or words to that effect. Well, not true. And why would they make such a false and misleading statement? political agenda is likely.

Here is a factual statement relating to Dr Wells:

/QUOTE/
While I am not overly familiar with the details of the Puppy farm referred to in your email, the Liberal Party is strongly supportive of the rights of animals and is opposed to animal cruelty and any breaches of the law concerning the treatment of animals.

Dr Wells is not a Liberal parliamentarian and holds no office or positions in the Liberal Party.

Unless a Party member who holds no office in the Party is convicted of an offence, the Party does not seek to become involved in a member's private affairs.

Regards,
Tony Barry
Deputy State Director
Liberal Party of Australia (Victorian Division)
/UNQUOTE/

Sorry, but I think slander and lies need to be corrected, or at minimum certain statements addressed.

Having said all that, and being a dog owner, the guy needs to be strung up by the lollybag....
