Default Trying to get in the 13's

My First effort in my BF XR6 NA at Heathcote was 15.3190 @ 95.36 - the car had extractors, 2.5" catback and a cold air intake but only the standard tune.

Today the best I could manage was 14.624 @ 99.01 - this is after changing to 3.73 diff gears, 20% Underdrive and a Tune.

I'd like to try and break into the 13's, does the difference now come from trying to get more power, shedding more weight, better technique (I'm pretty green with it all) or a combination of all 3. Any advice people may have would be appreciated.

All 3 you suggested, more power/less weight/better technique will make a difference, so which one do you want to spend the money on?

I got down to a 13.98 in my XT but it ran 14.7 as it came off the street, it now runs 14.9 straight off the street with a T5.

Those 7 tenths missing were a combination of weight, tyre and suspension setup. I swapped my 275/35/18 tyres for some 225/50/16 chasers, removed my passenger seats, spare wheel and front swaybar, then also removed my passenger headlight at the track.

Thanks mate, some ideas there I can have a play with, interesting that going with a more narrow tyre helped. I have 235/45/17 on at the moment.

My main concern when I bought them was the smaller rolling circumference, as I've still got the stock 3.23 diff. I've heard of cars running 11 seconds on 205 wide tyres

Also go in with minimum fuel. (With Enough to get home of course). Or take a Jerry can with 20l, and then fill up after your runs to get home.

Every litre of fuel is .737kg. Multiply that by 60, is call it 45 kilos. Go there with 20 litres and its 14.5kg.

Instant weight saving.

What trans do you have? I am keen to try and crack high 13's, I have a BF Fairlane, ZF 6spd auto, went from 2.73 to 3.46 LSD, 20Q% under drives, FG intake manifold, FG 13,000km motor, Plazmaman CAI, and will have a custom tune soon..

Will you come to heathcote for AFF nats mate? I want a couple of other NA b series there to play with..

no idea, hasnt seen a drag strip yet. but im getting high 6 second 0-100 times.. with wheelspin and theottle cut 1-2 shift the zf is quick off the line with 2.73 gove it some 3.46s and its a world of fun with a tight lsd.

how much power do you have? at the moment im on 153.7rwkw without a tune with pretty much same mods as you.. FG falcons are known to go close for 200rwkw which i in theory should get.

Without knowing the baseline, the final results could be anything. I've seen BA's claim as high as 190rwkw on basics and still seen FG's only put out 170rwkw.

The printout from the tune showed 190kw but without seeing it's results off multiple dynos to get an average I'd be a little sceptical

Yeah looking at some of your old posts and all the work you did makes me wonder how the hell do some dynos give high readings like that when compared to cars with a crap load more work done to them? What are the tuners doing different.... are the intentionally inflating the figures or is it simply differences in machines and how they run it?

I will give your response the due credit it deserves tomorrow...i'm off to work now :/

I ran 101mph with 190rwkw in 13.4 sec

I ran 104mph with 200rwkw in 14.0 sec

Something doesn't add up ?!
