As you'd expect.. P plate only covers a 4 year range of drivers.. full licence covers 15 times the amount of drivers in a 60+ year range....

So I suppose the two truck drivers fit in the excessive speed catagory. I did not think that made you a hoon but looking at the list again they could make you fit in a lot of catagorys. Being a cynical old bastard think it is just another way of stripping our rights to a fair trial (magna carta) by making a copper judge and jury.

as far as im concerned the only offences that i will accept being called a hoon for are these ones here

Conduct/engage in race/speed trial - 0.9%

Failure to have proper control - 0.7%

Improper use of motor vehicle - 48.4%

Smoke/undue noise - 0.3%

the rest are just normal traffic offences.

Improper use of a motor vehicle would include burnouts, drifting, and donuts.

What i find funny is that they only introduced these laws at first to stop people street racing, but only 0.9% of people picked up were doing that.

I used to live in bendigo there a huge car culture there and is almost as many cops too . So no surprise there . When i was there i used to get unmarked cop cars trying to drag you and as soon as you went over 50ks . They would sound the siren . I was lucky i never got done a lot of mates did though.
Also bendigo has been voted on triple j hotline as the most boring city in australia a few times. Also may have somthing to do with it.

Thanks for the stats. It's handy to know that if your looking for a cheap Holden, Police auctions are the way to go.

No one in mildy owns cars worthy of hooning anymore. And the ones who do own the decent cars either don't drive them or behave these days.

So, imagine this scenario...

You're off on holiday with the family in your quiet fully maintained roadworthy car, obeying all the speed limits and road rules. You're distracted by the wife/kids/dog/whatever, and you unexpectedly come onto a 'roadworks site' and find yourself doing 30-40k's over the limit. Mr Plod jumps out and says "Gotcha".

All of a sudden your a 'Hoon'? C'mon!!

Talking of hoons, tonight on the news there was this Holden guy who drove his car away from the pound, apparently laughing with his mates as he was fishtailing up the street.

The car was immediately impounded again. How stupid can someone be?

Yep a p-plater from Brunswick has had his car impounded twice in 3 days. The commodore driver had his car impounded for doing burnouts then as he left the police station was caught fish tailing out of there while laughing with his mates. They should impound the driver, not the car.

Unfortunately I am. Though I've wised to that behaviour, do not own my own car anymore and am very cautious of my driving behaviour these days.

I rely on my drivers license which is currently under threat so I do not need to risk any future issues surrounding it.

What bugs me at times is the stereotype because it covers everyone regardless of all circumstances. I don't defend my actions because I understand the law. I just dislike being pinned as a menace to society when I don't believe I am.

Burnouts in built up places and excessive speed... I do see that as a nuisance but the circumstances under which I became one of those statistics don't fall under either.

I also suspect it's because the amount of hooning you can do is limited by the P plate restrictions. Your average Falcodore 6 will struggle to pull a good burnout, usually it'll be a single spinner squeal. Letting loose in one of the 8's is much easier and satisfying.

The majority of actual hoon driving I've seen has been done in powerful cars by <30yo's.

The above is not at all suprising though. Our holiday home is just past Geelong and I've had more people try to race me everywhere there in a day, than I'll get in 2 years in Melbourne. They're all bloody hoons.

Maybe a manual Falcon six but the autos wind up very nicely. The best burnouts I have ever done are in an old auto XE I have honest to god left a half a kay mark in the XE. The thing just bogs down and slowly creeps sideways down the road.

Also don't forget that a lot of people are using linelockers and the riceburners are putting oil down
:

On another note does anybody know if you can get in trouble for doing doughies on the beach or in national parks?? Personal interest :evil3:

The above two sum it up niceley - Ls and Ps, covering a 4 year time frame, account for more than half of all hooning expenses that might be expected to be racked up in a lifetime of driving.

I really dout they would crush your car for your 3rd offence, i know they do it in the U.S, but the whole car crushing thing is an absolute joke, if anything the car should be stripped & sold for parts & the money go to road accident victims & familys or sold at an auction for a charity organization.
