Default wheel spacers

where can i get wheels spacers, im after either 2inch or 3 inch. just for the rears. any downside/upside to wheel spacers too? anything i should know?

they will change the handling dynamics of the car (for the worse if you move the unsprung wheel weight out another 2 or 3 inches)... they are illegal.. your insurance will be void.. probably something you should know.

why do you want 2 or three inch spacers anyway? that is a massive change in offset.

yeah.. you can drool over the pics of it all you like.. and even continue to pay it off along with the BMW that hits you and has insurance.. and you don't cause your insurance company wipes you when they find out you have spacers.

i found out that wheel spacers can be legal if they are welded on. if they have been bolted on thats illegal

you can get them from any tyre/mag shop ... but there not cheap

I had a set of 17 x 8 E series offset wheels (approx 35mm less offset than AU offset) bolted to the back of my old AU1 XR6 and even with rolled guards, the tyres hit the inner edge of the guards and pulled chunks out of the tyre.

I also had a set of AU offset 9" rear rims on the back, and these did not foul the outer guards, but were very close to the inner plastic guard. An extra 1" in rim width is basically an extra 1/2" of rim on either side of the rim centreline, and this size rim fills the guards very well - 9.5" is probably the max you can go on a sedan, which is 38mm wider than an 8" rim, or an extra 19mm each side of centreline.

Based on this, if you used a 20mm (3/4") spacer, you would probably be OK, but 2" or 3" would definitely have the guard ripping chunks out of the tyre, unless you had the guards severely flared. If you use a 20MM spacer with 75mm wheels studs, you may be OK in terms of having enough thread keeping the rim on, but you still have the problem of the locating centre of the hub not holding the weight of the rim - this is why spacers are generally illegal, as it relies on the wheel studs holding the weight of the wheel, when they are only designed to hold the wheel on, and the weight of the rim is actually supported by the centre part of the hub.

^^the other way you can get around tyres scrubbing outer guards is if you have irs to run as much rear camber as a vt commodore, then you only have to worry about scrubbing the inside edge of the tyres off because they are at a 45 degree angle to the road...
