Default 2001 Focus alternator

Hi all...
Just had the alternator die in my 2001 Focus CL, and the dealer says over $1000 to replace (~$700 for the part, and ~$300) to fit...
Does this sound right to you all?
Seems very expensive to me.
thanks for your help.

prob 500 for one and a carton for a mate to fit it.

They aren't all that difficult to fit.
