My wife believes I look after my cars better then herself. As consequence each car that I have owned since we have been together and married has earned a pet nickname. Past nicknames have included blue ***** for my beautiful 2005 BA Mark II XR6 (my first Ford and sadly missed) and the white witch for my current 2011 Audi S4 that I will miss when I trade in for my new ordered XR8.
Even though my yet to be built and delivered XR8 coloured smoke car has even been parked in our garage my wife has already given it the tag "Smoking Slut". I would be interested to know if others have a similar challenge? |

My Blueprint XR6 is named Sinister. The numberplate is an abbreviation of it, and for short it is referred to as "Sini".
Not long ago it was pointed out by a friend of mine in Finland, that Sini is a Finnish name, and also short for 'sininen' which means "blue". Yet it had this name long before I began learning Finnish, so it's just an interesting coincidence.

The g6et is turbie.
The xh ute I've nicknamed Betsy and always give her a pat on the dash when she's done a bit of towing and got us home without overheating or anything silly. The misses thinks I'm an idiot.

My current Bionic MkII BF XR6 is "Bluey"
Before that I had a NCII Fairlane that was a great car but had some troubles with the LPG system so we called it - "coughy coughy splut splut"!! Had about 10 or so cars before these and all had nicknames one time or another!! |

I don't like naming cars, even nicknames.
My old XF gets referred to as 'The Ute' My current BF wagon is referred to as 'The Wagon' And the AU gets called 'The Falcon', being that there was a time it was the only Falcon in the family and then more specifically 'The Blue One' (the other 2 are/were white) 'The AU' or 'The Sedan'. I'm REEEAALLY creative. Actually, The AU did get called 'The Butcher' by a friend for a while after I ran over a wombat and there was little damage to the car (new exhaust required) and graphic amounts of wombat about the place. The name didn't stick. |

I have some informal names for my Fords;
1970 Galaxie - Aircraft Carrier/USS Landbarge 1963 Thunderbird - Thunderbucket 1978 XC GXL - The Sleigh (a reference to a comment by Santa in "Rise Of The Guardians") 1966 Galaxie - The Muscle Car. Since its the only one with NO creature comforts 1996 EF Fairmont - Erm....it has multiple names. None fit to mention on a Family forum. |

For a while I had two white Mustangs. One was a '69 and the other was a '91. Both had 302 engines. I nicknamed the '69 Jake and the '91 Elwood.
My 2001 Crown Vic Police Interceptor is from the era called a "whale body," and it is also white. I nicknamed it Moby Vic (the Great White Whale), and also took that on as a user name. After I modified my '95 Mustang GTS extensively, I nicknamed it NVH. That stands for "noise, vibration, and harshness," which is something manufacturers try to minimize in production vehicles, but I maximized all three.

Don't really nickname cars.
Motorbikes...that's another matter. My little 1964 Vespa is, of course, "Luigi". My 1974 Kawasaki H2-750 2-stroke triple is "Combat Wombat"...yes yes, it's an old Hodaka trials bike name, but it just seemed funny and the old girl likes a battle against modern stuff. My 2008 GSX1400 has the nameplate "Sledgehammer" under the licence plate on the back. For obvious reasons if you've ever ridden one. |

Thanks for that reminder 2011G6E... I completely forgot about my 2007 Suzuki C50... Entitled "Leopold, the Crimson Avenger"... Maybe I do have some imagination* with these things... Albeit a twisted, Hooch fuelled, sleep deprived imagination.

I'll start with my mum.
Her first VW combi camper, a 60's model, was dubbed "Bertie". Now she has an '85 Transporter camper named by my aunt whom she bought it off. It is called "Herbie" (I doubt they were up all night to think those up). My mum also owns an '05 Mazda 2 dubbed by the manufacturer as "Genki", meaning "Happy place". As for me, I find it hard to find a name worthy of any car I've owned, one that's deserving either by it's look or behaviour. My previous ride, a Citrus yellow '85 XF s-pack was sometimes referred to as "Spack", usually after giving me some weird hard to diagnose problem, also dubbed "ol' Yella" but usually referred to as "Lemon". On occasion I thought of it as a giant Daffodil as bees often landed on it! A mechanic once told me, in his opinion, that most cars that leave the factory in yellow usually turn out to be lemons. Alas my XF was for about the first 6 of the 10 years I owned it. Now my current ride, repainted in Raspberry from the Wattyl range of colours, was dubbed "Mousse" by one of my cousins. It kind of stuck! My son sometimes referred to it as "Ticky" after the noise the lash adjusters used to make. Oh' & in my youth I once owned a Kermit green Valiant Ranger, so yes it was named "kermit"! On a side note, my username comes from a term used in the early 1900's. A "Flivver" was a cheap automobile, so Fords were often called Flivvers as they were by far the cheapest car on the planet. When the model T was first released you could have a base model for the princely sum of $400 (roughly 1 years wages). From there you could buy optional extras like a rear seat, a luggage rack or hard top, even then the top of the range model T could be had for around $900 to $1000. Good thread
My XG all of a sudden got the nickname "The G-Banger" I think most XG's have had that name at some stage... My BA ute hasn't got a name yet. It's one i'm struggling with although i often refer to it as "big girl" but that's not really a name.

My friends dubbed my previous red EL XR6 - "Big Red" and my blue Mazda is now dubbed "Blue Balls" - a dig at me being single. But one drives a black car and the other grey - and they are both married, so theirs are beyond blue.

My first XY was "the thunderbird", named by the couple across the street that didn't like the volume of exhaust (was really quiet mild, the whinging sods, they moved not long after I got there)
Few of my friends call my XY "the beast", it feels cringy but I don't say anything |
