Default Volkswagen Golf R 0-100 in 4.9 seconds

http://www.caradvice.com.au/247694/v...kmh-in-4-9sec/

Pretty impressive figures from a little 2.0 litre turbo hatch, seems to have lifted the bar by quite a large margin in the hot hatch segment. I've always loved the Golf GTI's and R32 but the recent bad publicity and Volkswagen's bad attitude acknowledging the problems have put me off a bit.

should be a bit of fun, i think i would be taking the standard manual transmission though, they can stick the dual clutch ......... somewhere.

The last Golf I saw was parked in the fast lane of the road with its hazard lights on and its driver standing beside it waiting for something.

Never liked the look of the golf at all high roof short bum....not sure the seating position has changed but a few years back it felt like you're sitting on top of the car.

I actually bought a 3 year old A3 2.0T for the commute to work, not even close to the power of this but gee it feels nimble and tight a joy to dive, with handling and power on tap with brakes to match very balanced.

Mercedes claim 4.6s 0-100 for the AMG A45 which also is a 2.0T and say they have unofficially hit 4.4.

This Golf R with a flash could easily hit those numbers, and for a starting price of circa $49k thats a crepload of performance. Too bad the new model looks so boring. I just could not live with it. I wish I knew why VW were going so vanilla with their styling, because every model they have at the moment has that same square front and big wide grille, meh meh meh and more meh.

Probably so people over the age of 30 (ie, those who tend to have the money) will buy them...

Looks like a bland, Base model golf with some fully-sick 20's fitted. The Mk6 looked a hundred times better!

Personally not a fan of Golf's - uninspiring to drive, and stupidly expensive to repair when they break (which they ultimately will!) - $2k for an AC compressor for example!

Nope, that market is well covered in Australia. Look inside any Golf R or GTI, and they're usually driven by those 45-50+

You get the odd one driven by a youngy but at least here in Melbourne, they're the car of choice for many many many many middle aged business style people. it wouldn't hurt them to try to push the envelope style wise, they've been on a downward spiral since the Mk5.

I think the styling is very tasteful, what else do people want? Big spoilers, bonnet vents, outlandish body kits? There are plenty of hot hatches out there that appeal to that person. VW is appealing to the person who doesn't need all the cheesy tack-ons but wants something a little classier.

Going to buy any bum dragging shopping trolley, rather a Focus RS... only for manual drivers so no pretty boys, hence paddles in the VW for them!

Sick of these Golf drivers in Melb, majority are a bunch of clowns with aspirations of delusion..

Yes but the Golf is a global car, the design team dont design their cars for the Australian market. I doubt they give 2 ***** about a middle of nowhere country.

Mmm, you would have a hard time convincing many of that! In fact all reviews favour the Golf for it's driver involvement. Lucky we have a choice!

To be honest i prefer the MK6 R and having been in one they are quite rapid, and with a tune even moreso. But you cant argue with the figures dished out by the MK7 R thats for sure.

As the owner of a "sports model" of a previous era (1982 Celica), it never ceases to amaze me the figures coming out of four cylinders nowadays, from all makes, but especially the sports models like this thing and the Focus ST and others.

Power output is now "normally" up near 200kw from sporty models.

Power out of my '82 Celica?

...erm...67kw...and that was seen as perfectly normal back then out of a 2 liter four...in fact, some four cylinders on the market then made less than that. Good thing it's got a nicely balanced chassis that can take full advantage of every single kilowatt and make it fun to drive despite the "power"...

Time to get off my butt and do some mods...

Haters will always hate, but the people who have driven these cars, and lived with them day to day will always know the true capability. Mk6 Golf R probably does look tougher, but with a weight reduction and more power, this thing will be a cracker. Similar straight line performance to a GT, more established interior, better handling, and a quarter of the fuel economy, for half the money! Sounds like a winner to me

Bought an R32 new and had an excellent experience with it and VW, the only thing I wasn't that keen on was the cost of servicing. Just the oil for the DSG on each service was the price I pay to have my F6 serviced. I was lucky to get any change out of $1300 every 10k kms.

If the new R addressed that cost, I'd have no hesitation in getting one.

221kw from a 2.0 engine is pretty impressive/highly strung. Imagine an FPV pushing 110.5 kw per litre.

Hardly highly strung. Mercedes A45 AMG engine is 2L, 265kW with room to move and it still makes peak torque of 450Nm at 2,000rpm.

I seem to remember 1.8 BAR, so yeah. Quite high I guess. I believe the engine is forged, though. Nothing a change in turbo won't fix.

My wife has a mk6 R they are a lot of fun. servicing isn't that expensive, sure if you go through vw they'll charge 600, but we can't talk because ford wanted 650 for my first service on my GT.

After a tune it's running at about 20psi with room to move but we went safe. acceleration in the wet is crazy though.... leaves the gt standing lol
