He’s running the show now isn’t he ?

The US doesn’t have a GST or a luxury sales tax. We do.

Oh man. Was Albo even in politics when they were introduced?! That's a long bow to string. You can't just remove them for numerous reasons.

US has sales Tax.

If anything, by increasing LCT thresholds, Albo has reduced LCT.

Do the maths of ALL of the taxes consumers pay in Australia and the US on these purchases, it’s not “like for like”.

Like I said earlier this is old ground with S550, the price was comparable when GST and LST were removed and compared to US Sales Taxes.

Albo and his people can remove the LST anytime.

S550 attracts it at a lower threshold.

Anyway, US depends on the state you live. California is very comparable with the taxes we pay in Australia. 9.5% sales tax. And higher income tax as well.

People were whining about S550 prices in 2016 and after comparing them to US prices, conversions and taxes showed they were comparable ( don’t also forget to include shipping from China for Mach E).

People whining about Mach E prices need to present all of the data when they do a comparison (including taxes), if they don’t then their numbers are BS.

BTW: I’m not buying a Mach E, I’d buy a Tesla model Y first.

True. They were comparable for S550.

Mach E is within a few thousand of the Y in the US. Here, it's about $20k dearer. All taxes the same, the Mach E is priced very poorly.

Not Tesla vs Mach E mate, Mach E vs Mach E, I’d like to see the breakdown of taxes , including tooling costs Amortised to do it in RHD.

Honestly I couldn’t be bothered doing it myself, but if someone posts numbers all things need to be considered including /
all Taxes, Tariffs, shipping and tooling costs etc.

I don't get the love for the Thai specials of any brand. They seem underdone compared to a F-150/Tundra/Titan.

But the Mach E shouldn't have LCT against it if priced correctly. Only the GT should attract it

I was helping a customer load up his F-150 Raptor the other day, I remarked on his choice of vehicle, his response was that his was a "real" Raptor and not the pretender. Had to laugh at that.

RAM and Jeep sales down-

https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-new...are-much-worse

Quote:
Against a backdrop of a 16 per cent increase in sales for American pickups, Ram reported 1040 vehicles sold in the first quarter of 2024 – a 36.5 per cent drop compared to the 1637 deliveries it made between January and March 2023.
Quote:
Jeep’s 235 sales in March 2024 contributed to its first-quarter total of 730 deliveries, a hefty drop from its 1218 sales across the same period last year.

At this rate, Jeep is on track to post its lowest annual sales in more than a decade and a half. In 2023, it sold 4634 vehicles, the most recent low since the Global Financial Crisis-affected 2009 in which 4193 cars were sold.
Jeep is reaping what they sowed a few years ago, pushing volume into dealers that couldn't keep up and a lack of spares needed to deal with inherent quality control issues. Put it this way, Americans are strongly patriotic over their own brands, turning a blind eye to the cost and corner cutting..................something I don't think Stellantis nee FCA nee Chrysler understood, "how dare the Aussies have issue with our products".

Yep, they have EVs to bring the fleet average emissions down so they can sell their more profitable F series in high volumes.

If they don't have EVs then they have to buy credits off competitors (see Stellantis buying credits from Tesla).

I'm not surprised to see the F-150 outselling the Silverado at all. There is way more RAMs than them anyway by a large margin around here. The real story will be if Ford can close gap to RAM.

I wouldn't buy a GM brand anything on principle after all their bullshit in Australia.

Well, the Hemi V8 is not long for this world, it will be replaced by the Hurricane Inline 6. I wonder what that will do to RAM sales in Australia, the V8 has been the big drawcard for the majority of buyers.

It has me scratching my head to be honest. From what I read, the Hurricane actually has a slightly worse fuel efficiency rating than the Hemi.

I seriously considered a 1500 Limited but just couldn't bring myself to spend $160k on a vehicle. So I ended up with the Raptor. However the RAM is a great vehicle inside and out and is a great cruiser. From the RAM Facebook groups I'm in, it also appears to use less fuel than my Raptor.

Ignoring the local GM issue, it’s clear that the full sized pickup market is limited to about 800/month sales.
If Ford can manage not to self wound, the F150 is set to take a big bite out of Sliver and Ram sales.

That's nuts the Ram drinks less than a Raptor Naddis.

And Jeep sales here - I wonder if it is the upping of the pricing as well, like they did for the new generation Grand Cherokee? In the US Dodge is rapidly accumulating stock with eye watering sticker prices and their dealer lots are overflowing.

Hasn't been the greatest start to the F150 sales locally with the recalls and having the model superseded before launch.

Yeah, Sprintey, I have noticed that as well. I think there are some complex economic interactions in play. Most automakers seem to have finally sorted out their supply chain issues. Unfortunately, timed perfectly with the US Feds interest rate rises starting to really bite into the US economy.

Toyota seems to be doing the best with its new car inventory in the US. But I am not sure if that is good management or good/bad luck. Toyota is still working its way though supply chain and IT issues (including a ransomware attack on its systems in Feb 22 and an undisclosed IT issue in Sep 23). Maybe the ball has curved Toyota's way this time around.

As for the Australian new car market ... I get the feeling that an economic crunch is coming.
